Life & Work with Sevastian Jimenez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sevastian Jimenez.

Hi Sevastian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My creative journey started when I was around 19. I enrolled in my local community college and took as many art and digital courses as I could. While attending, I made lifelong friends along the way. I focused on marketing my skills and making new connections as well. I would travel from Longview to Austin frequently during the weekends. Every time I would visit, I would go out with my close friend at the time. I met a lot of interesting people along the way and eventually made a name for myself there. Most of them are involved in the nightlife there, which has helped me get involved with some really interesting projects, like when I participated in SXSW 2023. Lately, those connections I made in Austin have led me to have a sizeable following on my Instagram, which has helped me get into more exciting things. Now I am working with Paramount+ on some of their upcoming shows and also some movies that are currently in development. I think the most important thing you can do is to go out and talk to strangers. You never know where it might lead you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t necessarily been a smooth road; there are times when I find myself being worn out, but I know it’s worth the effort. I think my biggest struggle is knowing how to prioritize my time and understand that sometimes I will have to miss out on an opportunity. Either way, I continue to grow my network each day.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Printmaking and Ceramics in my personal body of work with a background in Color Theory. My main focus is to bridge the gap between those who are colorblind and art, since a lot of artists do not necessarily understand that community very well, and I believe that art should be a very inclusive space for everyone. I am known for creating outstanding Minimalistic bodies of work in my 2D work and very sculptural and architectural pieces in my 3D work. I am most proud of the exhibition I had before graduating and also the doors that have opened for me. What sets me apart from others is my charismatic personality and ability to work well with others to bring visions to life.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Determination.
