Today we’d like to introduce you to Stanislav Pronin.
Hi Stanislav, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Stanislav Pronin – Short Biography
Stanislav Pronin has performed as soloist and chamber musician at many festivals including Verbier Festival, Interlaken Classics, Banff Festival and Kronberg Festival.
He performs regularly in America, Europe and Asia in such venues as Berliner Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Seoul Arts Center, Salzburg Festspiele, Paris Philharmonie, Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall in London, Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Semperoper in Dresden, and so on.
He has collaborated with numerous conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Slatkin,Leif Segerstram, Tobias Ringborg, Mario Venzago and Joshua Weilerstein.
In addition to solo and chamber music, Stanislav has performed as Concertmaster with Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and Odense Symphony Orchestra in Denmark, Austin Lyric Opera in the USA, Berliner Symphoniker, Beethoven Bonn Orchestra and Freiburg Philharmonic in Germany, Musikkolegium Winterthur in Switzerland, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra in Estonia, Singapore Symphony and City of
Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Stanislav regularly gives masterclasses worldwide and in such institutions as the Royal College of Music in London, Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Estonian
Academy of Music and Theater, University of Texas at Austin, Royal Welsh College of
Music and Drama in Cardiff, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and has been assistant to
his mentor, Professor Zakhar Bron, at the Kronberg Academy. He is currently a
Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
Stanislav plays a rare 1736 violin by Giuseppe Guarneri Del Gesu (“ex-Heifetz”) on
generous loan by an anonymous patron, with the kind assistance of the China
Foundation.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It is quite rare to experience a “smooth road” as a professional musician. We get to see more closed doors than open along the way. I think the greatest challenge is to keep moving forward, despite all rejections and misfortunes, no matter what. Of course, this extends beyond being a musician. It’s so easy to let hopelessness and despair destroy our lives! But we must have the patience, strength and perseverance in the face of adversity in order to survive. The path of an artist is long and full of obstacles, and you should only pursue a career in music or any other arts if you cannot imagine your life otherwise.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a professional violinist, I have learned that the key to sustaining an enjoyable career in music requires a lot of flexibility. I am very fortunate to have interest in different styles and genre of music, including classical, contemporary, blues and even hip-hop. Also, I enjoy music making regardless of the role I am required to undertake. Whether I perform as a soloist, chamber musician or orchestra concertmaster, I find various sources of enjoyment within each of these roles. Additionally, I compose my own music and am very passionate about teaching. Being engaged in so many different musical activities makes my life diverse and colorful.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a young child, I was very reserved and introverted. I was mostly reading encyclopedias and classical literature (two of my favorite authors were Shakespeare and Dostoyevsky), listening to classical music and practicing the violin.
