Life & Work with Stephanie Robinson of KOOP Radio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Robinson

Stephanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Pre-Covid, I was a senior promotions assistant for iHeartRadio here in Austin. Music has kind of always been the only thing that made sense to me, and my dream career was anything having to do with it. During Covid lockdowns in 2020, I was really restless and unsatisfied, having the only thing I cared about taken from me. I decided to try to get involved in radio again and began looking for whatever opportunities I could during those uncertain times. I found KOOP (I don’t remember how), and the rest is history. Now I’ve been on the air for four years, hosting my own weekly show The Emo Diaries, and as part of a collective for Beat Happenings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say it’s been mostly smooth sailing. Everyone at KOOP is the same in that we all have the same reasons for being there. While not everyone involved with the station is there in a musical capacity, we all share the passion for being part of this community and creating informative and enjoyable content for our listeners and the community at large. The biggest struggle I’ve faced is having my show rescheduled from the Friday slot I was in for a couple of years due to my work schedule changing. And that’s hardly a struggle worth complaining about!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear many hats as part of the KOOP cooperative. Not only am I a programmer of two shows, but I am also a member/vice chair of the Programming Committee, head editor of the Writing Team, and project manager for the new After Hours Subcommittee (stay tuned!). I am (perhaps too) passionate about this station and our mission, and want to help contribute in any way that I can. Outside of KOOP, I support the local music scene as best I can, having previously worked for two record labels and as a talent buyer.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am ALWAYS open to suggestions, ideas, and requests. Please tell me your opinions of the show, what I can improve, and what you’d like to hear. I’m always available @theemodiariesradio or emodiares@koop.org.
