Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Dadds.
Hi Taylor, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started One Balanced Life when I was in a job in Dallas, Texas that left me feeling really unfulfilled day to day. I started sharing my daily breakfast or meal prep while working my 9-5 as a passion project. I fell in love with sharing and creating a community online. That led me to quit my job and move to Austin, Texas where I started to work remote for a brand managing their social media. That was a start-up and fell through after a couple of months living in Austin. I knew I didn’t want to go back to the corporate world, so I started to freelance my offerings of social media content creator while also building my community over on One Balanced Life. Before the pandemic, I took OBL full time and have been doing it full time since then. I grew up with body image issues, constant dieting and many restrictions when it came to food and fueling my body. I wanted to use my page as a way of growing through those restrictions into allowing myself to eat the foods that I crave and eat food that makes me feel good but tastes good too.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! No, definitely not a smooth road, but one filled with challenges and learning curves that I’m grateful for. From quitting my job to losing a job to then finding my own way through the freelancing world, going back to working corporate and then taking One Balanced Life full time right before the pandemic. The world of social media is always changing and one that I’m learning along the way. I didn’t have any experience in blogging, WordPress, SEO, photography, videography and just about everything that I do on a daily basis now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run the health and wellness food blog, One Balanced Life. I create simple, delicious recipes with emphasis on meal prep and minimal ingredient meals. On my Instagram and website, you can see everything from one pot meals, meal prep salads or easy weeknight dinners. I love keeping things simple but taste good and most importantly, make you feel good too! I have over 300 recipes on One Balanced Life!
I’m most proud of my commitment to keep going on the days where I don’t feel like it or am feeling down. The last two years have been hard, mentally. There have been many days where I’ve questioned my work. I keep going by the positive comments from my community, seeing someone make and enjoy one of my recipes and the commitment to what I want to do with One Balanced Life. I’m proud of me for that!
I think everyone on social media has their own unique thing they bring. I have created routines and habits over the last few years that have been so beneficial to me as a business owner and managing my own day to day schedule. I make sure to fill every day with things that make ME feel good in order to run my business successfully. This includes moving my body in the mornings, journaling, eating nourishing foods and time blocking my schedule.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love having the trail in the middle of the city! That’s one thing that I hop on weekly for runs, walks with my pup or catching up with friends. It’s beautiful and pictures of it never gets old.
Nothing against Austin, but I’m still trying to accept the heat (lol). The summers are HOT and I don’t love it!
