Today we’d like to introduce you to Akshita Mehta.
Hi Akshita, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a dual board-certified physician – neuroradiology and lifestyle medicine – and I’ve spent the last several years splitting my time between reading imaging as a neuroradiologist and building Dive Into Health MD, a company I founded to bring a food-and-lifestyle lens to how people think about their health. Reading scans all day showed me how much of what I was seeing traced back to years of diet and lifestyle, long before anyone showed up in a hospital. That’s what led me to start DIHMD: helping people understand where their food actually comes from and how to find quality food for their health. That shows up in everything I build: a docuseries bringing farmers’ and food producers’ own stories to life, a podcast digging into the people and science behind our food system, and a WhatsApp community of physicians working through these questions together. I live in Dripping Springs, Texas, with my family, and I try to protect time for both them and my own health along the way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a straight line. Being a first-time entrepreneur is an entirely different road than medical training, and learning how to navigate starting a business without a linear path has been its own challenge. Building a company while keeping a full clinical practice going also means there’s no extra hours lying around – everything gets squeezed into whatever time is left after reading scans, and that means being honest about what has to wait. The hardest part for me has been staying present with my two young kids, who are 2 and 4, while also building something this demanding. There’s also the challenge of being a physician trying to talk about food and lifestyle in a way that’s grounded in real science, without getting lumped in with wellness trends that don’t hold up. Doing all of this while still protecting time for my family and my own health has meant saying no to a lot of things that would have been easy yeses.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Dive Into Health MD?
Dive Into Health MD is a company I founded to help people go to the source and understand our modern-day food system – where our food actually comes from, how it fits into modern society, and how this affects our health. It’s not another wellness brand telling people to eat clean; it’s grounded in medicine and backed by a physician who reads the long-term effects of diet and lifestyle for a living. What sets us apart is that we go straight to the source: we bring farmers’ and food producers’ stories to life through our docuseries, dig into the people and science behind our food system on our podcast, and give physicians a space to work through these questions together in our WhatsApp community. We’re also building out educational offerings, including a medical education course and live courses, so people and clinicians alike have a clear, practical way to apply this. What I want people to know is that this isn’t about perfection or restriction – it’s about understanding where your food comes from and taking realistic steps that actually move the needle for your health.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
A few that help me stay sharp, both running DIHMD and in life: The 12 Week Year has been key for how I think about execution in short, focused sprints rather than vague annual goals. Range by David Epstein shaped how I think about building a varied career instead of narrowing too early. The Tony Robbins podcast and How I Built This are both in regular rotation – one for mindset, the other for real entrepreneurship stories without the gloss. And on the app side, I use Runna for training, which keeps me consistent with running. Lots of excel files for organization.
