Today we’d like to introduce you to April Melohn.
Hi April, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a military brat who has lived in many awesome places & both coasts. Born in beautiful San Diego, CA, Graduated high school in Destin, FL, & shortly ventured out on my own to LA at 19 to purse modeling, worked in property management LOVED the city life , and then a few years later flew to Austin and back in the same day to secure a job interview as a head recruiter. (Taurus thing to do – when you know what you want) got the call back in LA that I got the job and next thing I know I was packing to start my life in Austin 2020 not knowing 3 months later COVID would hit, not knowing I would get invited onto a Netflix reality series, get broken up with on television just to plan on moving back to LA & meeting a guy a few months before I’d be leaving. A guy who I now have a beautiful life with & 2 beautiful girls with & has kept me in Austin since.
I say all of this because it has trained me to think anytime something bad happens to me, or the course of MY plans change- is all for good. Who would have known so many things would have had to happen in order for me to have my beautiful family & life here in Austin with our 2 beautiful girls. All of this guided the way for me to have all of the opportunitIES I have been so grateful to have. Most importantly my favorite thing in this world. BEING A MOM & hustling as a mommy influencer has been another blessing from tv to be able to have fun with my kids, create a schedule that can work around them and allow me to be Mom first. I didn’t know influencing would take off the way that it did and managing it to maintain the same and keep growing was a whole job! I am a one man show, from filming, editing, storyboarding my ideas, pitching to clients… and then my partner Cody, who also runs a successful real estate brokerage here in Austin along with multiple businesses. Our household can definitely sometimes be CHAOS, but it is ALWAYS filled with so much love! I’m so proud of the mom I am today. These girls are my world. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been smooth! as a content creator, no day is always the same and I can go from having two jobs to film in a day to putting everything on pause because I have a sick baby and being able to prioritize my kids and get back to work – I have so much gratitude for this flexibility to priotize my kids first – but what comes with that is when it’s time to play catch-up I’m a one-man show from filming editing content. Client communication. , then someone may need something fixed and then I still have to POST it! – it can be very overwhelming!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most proud that my niche in social media is being a MOMMY INFLUENCER. I LOVE GETTING excited for all of my new mom friends, new mama followers & proud to say 80-90% of my following is strongly female!
Just a group of amazing moms in my Audience and I think that opportunity alone to radiate positivity and my love for being in that stages of motherhood is something I’m extremely proud of next to my beautiful princesses!
What were you like growing up?
I was always the yapper, the contagious, energy, the person who could talk to anyone in the room the person that talks to you at checkout, that’s not afraid to talk to anyone in the room even if it’s a random stranger! I think this in general stems from my military background, you know you move from schools different towns you end up being the new girl and you also grow up with other military kids who get it – where we have to change environments / friends / adapt ! I was always the girly girl loved music dance gymnastics the color pink all of the things – I dreamed of being a girl mom even as a little girl! ! And here we are!
