Today we’d like to introduce you to Belinda.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Clayton Farmers Market started with a simple mission — to create a space where local businesses, farmers, and neighbors could connect every week. As small business owners, we saw a need in the East Austin community for something consistent, welcoming, and truly local during the week. Our goal was to give people midweek access to fresh food, reduce waste for vendors, and offer a supportive space where small businesses could thrive.
Most of the vendors at our market are the farmers, the growers, the bakers, and the makers themselves — many are single-person or husband-and-wife operations. All are small local businesses dedicated to providing for the community and building real relationships. We’re proud to feature those who put their heart into their work and value direct connection with their customers. From pasture-raised meats, produce, and fresh food to gluten-free baked goods, fresh coffee, handmade crafts, and prepared meals — everything is rooted in passion and purpose.
As a small nonprofit and family-run market, we’re grateful to be part of this community. Everything we do is rooted in connection — we’re family-oriented, community-focused, and committed to creating a space where everyone feels welcome. Clayton Farmers Market isn’t just a place to shop — it’s a place to gather, to support each other, and to grow together. And we’re just getting started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a midweek farmers market meant building something new in a space that didn’t exist yet — educating customers, getting the word out, and building trust from the ground up. We’ve had to navigate raising awareness of a new market, creating consistent foot traffic, unpredictable weather, and the challenges that come with being a small, independently run operation.
What’s made the difference is our incredible vendors — many of whom are small-batch producers, farmers, and solo entrepreneurs who believed in the vision from day one. They’ve shown up rain or shine, juggling production, marketing, and sales, all while helping us grow something from scratch. Their dedication, grit, and consistency are helping lay the foundation for what this market is becoming — something rooted in community, resilience, and shared purpose.
We’re also incredibly thankful to be located in front of Clayton Towers — a privately owned commercial building that opened its heart (and its parking lot) to help bring this market to life. They’re not just a backdrop for our market, but a true partner in the markets growth. Their support and belief in local connection and collaboration has made all the difference. It’s rare to find a building that’s so invested in local community development — their support, space, and shared vision have helped make this market possible.
Through it all, the support from our community has been incredible. Every challenge has pushed us to adapt, stay creative, and stay grounded in our mission: to create something meaningful, consistent, and truly local.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Clayton Farmers Market is a weekly Wednesday market in Windsor Park, created to connect our community with fresh, local food and goods in the middle of the week. We specialize in curating a diverse lineup of local vendors — from farmers and ranchers to chefs, bakers (even gluten-free!), coffee makers, small-batch food producers, and artisan crafters.
What makes us different is our focus on midweek access, community connection, and consistent opportunities for small and underrepresented businesses. We’re family-run, and relationship-driven — and we limit overlapping items to ensure every vendor has the chance to shine. At our market, all vendors are supported, and we work hard to make sure everyone feels valued and seen.
We’re especially proud of the brand we’re building: something that feels welcoming, consistent, and rooted in the neighborhood. Whether you come for pastured meat and eggs, produce, sourdough, or just a good conversation with a vendor who knows your name — we want you to feel like this is your market. Because it is.
How do you define success?
For us, success isn’t measured in foot traffic or sales alone — it’s measured in relationships. When vendors tell us it was their best day yet, when a neighbor becomes a regular, when a kid knows which booth to run to for their favorite treat and brings every vendor a thank you note — that’s success.
It’s seeing small businesses grow, watching vendors support each other, and building something that feels like home to the community. If people leave feeling seen, supported, and excited to come back, we’ve done our job.
Success looks like community impact — consistent, local, and rooted in connection.
