Meet Brently Heilbron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brently Heilbron.

Brently Heilbron

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
As a joke, I put out a Facebook post in 2014 that said I was starting an emo puppet band called Fragile Rock. This being Austin, people started coming out of the woodwork saying they would play bass or make puppets for it. It spontaneously became a real thing. It’s been a wild journey that took us to SXSW and our Tiny Desk Concert on NPR. I love this project! It’s very cathartic.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, we were booed off America’s Got Talent for one. It makes for a good story, but it was devastating to experience. So, failure became baked into the band. After going through that, the rest is easy.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a writer and love writing music for others to perform. It’s so special when artists come together and add their voices. It makes the work stronger.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Ask! Share your craft with others, and they’ll share it with you. The cool ones will, anyway!
