Today we’d like to introduce you to Carter Romero
Hi Carter, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We first started as a mowing company in 2016, and slowly transformed into a team that builds turn-key outdoor living spaces. After closing the business while attending college, my business partner Josh and I re-opened Urban Oasis in 2020 as a way to stay active and spend time outdoors during COVID. As Urban Oasis began to gain more traction, we continued to grow the team and expand our services. We have now spent ~5 years in this space, operating in Austin and San Antonio with a team of roughly 20 fantastic team members. We love what we do and find a ton of fulfillment in helping create spaces for our clients to enjoy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We were lucky to have brought on a few amazing key team members early on that have helped mitigate major struggles throughout our growth. There has been some difficulty in the seasonality of our business and finding the right team members during periods of quick growth, but our core team has really helped alleviate these problems and find quick solutions. We’re very thankful for the ability of our team to problem solve and find solutions quickly.
We’ve been impressed with Urban Oasis Contracting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Urban Oasis is an outdoor living spaces company operating in Austin and San Antonio. We’re a company that strives to have fantastic communication, great energy and a well organized business structure. These qualities create an environment where we are friendly with clients, while executing complex and large-scape projects smoothly and efficiently.
We are extremely proud of our team environment at Urban Oasis. Each member is specialized in multiple aspects of living spaces, and come together to execute amazing projects. We’re all friendly and carry a deep respect for one another. Most of our team has been at UO for 3+ years, and enjoy work just as much as our frequent team-building events.
At Urban Oasis, we offer turn-key solutions for outdoor spaces. Our services list includes patios, decking, fencing, concrete, pergolas, planting, irrigation, sod, walkways, steel work, outdoor kitchens and custom fabrication. We also design spaces in-house, providing clients with mood boards, 2D plans and 3D renders.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
We have found many great contacts from our suppliers. Our local nurseries and construction materials suppliers have put us in contact with prospective employees, prospective clients and even other companies in our industry that have been great connections.
Trade shows have also been a great place to seek out relevant contacts.
