Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Roman.
Cathy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business after planning my son’s first birthday. I didn’t have a background in event planning—I was just a mom who wanted to make his day special. I ended up loving the process more than I expected. From there, I started helping friends and family, and slowly Cathy’s Events began to grow.
I’ve built balloon garlands in the middle of the night, figured things out on the fly, and learned to stay calm when things didn’t go as planned. Every event has taught me something new. I’ve grown a lot—not just as a decorator, but as a business owner and creative.
Now, I get to bring people’s visions to life for their most meaningful moments. Whether it’s a birthday, baptism, or baby shower, I love seeing the joy on my clients’ faces when it all comes together. That’s what keeps me going.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth. I’ve had to figure things out as I go—juggling being a mom, handling setups, and managing everything behind the scenes. There’ve been long nights, last-minute changes, and some setups under the Texas sun (we all know the Texas heat). I’ve doubted myself at times, but I’ve learned to stay flexible, keep showing up, and trust that every challenge is just part of the journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of Cathy’s Events, where I specialize in custom event decor for birthdays, baby showers, baptisms, and all kinds of special moments. I’m known for bringing themes to life in a fun, thoughtful, and detailed way—whether it’s a balloon backdrop, party favors, or full event setups.
What sets me apart is that I treat every event like it’s my own. I’m a mom, so I understand how important these milestones are. It’s not just decor—it’s creating memories for families. I take the time to listen, to understand my clients’ vision, and to make sure every little detail feels personal and special.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come doing something I truly love. I started with just an idea and a passion for creating joy, and now I get to help others celebrate the people they love. That means everything to me.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is seeing the kids’ faces light up when I create décor based on their favorite characters. That excitement and joy—it’s priceless.
Also, being a mom, I find so much happiness in spending quality time with my son and family. Balancing my work with those moments reminds me why I do what I do.
Creating, celebrating, and making memories—that’s what truly lights me up.
