Meet Chris Daschke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Daschke.

Hi Chris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been producing music for ten years but started the 10pmtoclose project in the Summer of 2020. We set out to make Disco/Nu-Disco records that we wanted to hear because not many US-based artists are making the type of music we love. We also developed the ‘Midnight’ aesthetic which we would describe as the Glamour & Grime of chasing your dreams or living the high life. Our music reflects this by certain records either having a dance floor or back alleyway type of feeling.

We are not relegated to just producing for ourselves either. We have worked with other Austin-based artists to help deliver our Midnight sound as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always. Carving out a place in the creative community is not easy. Everyone is trying to find their own path and make their way, so many are not eager to lend a hand or help push you forward. Our journey is best described as ‘chipping away’ at it. Small victories that lead to incremental progress. We have come far in 2 years, but not nearly where we want to be.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our Midnight aesthetic is what I am most proud of. We have really pushed ourselves to find not only lyrics and themes, but sound/production design, marketing, branding, and creative directions to meet that aesthetic. If we can make people interested in us not only from our music but through our other creative outlets then that is a win for us.

How do you define success?
Recognition from our creative peers. Nothing would be greater than having some of our favorite artists recognize our work as something substantial.
