Today we’d like to introduce you to Christen Killebrew.
Christen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Christen Killebrew (Mermaid Pearl) discovered the world of Mermaiding in 2021 when she was doing research on ways to improve her own physical and mental wellness. She found that the benefits of being a Mermaid exceeded her expectations and so she sought out to learn everything she could about the art of Mermaiding, freediving, environmental advocacy, performing for parties/events and training others to do the same in a safe and supportive environment. Christen has been active in the central Texas Mermaid Community attending and performing at events such as: https://youngsurvival.org (for young adults affected by breast cancer) Wellness Summit in Bonita Springs, Florida; She has performed at Hearts for Hope hosted by https://bmillerfoundation.org (for childhood cancer awareness) Texas Trout Fest, The Annual San Marcos Mermaid Festival & A Very Merry Jarrell Christmas event for the City Of Jarrell. She has also been featured in local publications such as The Williamson County Sun (Link at top of page), The Georgetown View, The Liberty Hill Digest, My Jarrell Monthly, Voyage Austin & has been welcomed into the World Wide Women’s Association for her community impact. She also performs at corporate events, private gatherings and parties by request for both children and adults. When Mermaid Pearl isn’t busy swimming, training or showing up for pictures with her human friends , she enjoys nature, hosting local cleanups, and spending time with the people she loves most; her children, husband and friends.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not smooth lol. I’m a mom who works nights and there is a lot of training and preparing that goes into this business! I am Emergency first responder, emergency oxygen provider, basic free diver, PADI advanced mermaid certified & PADIMermaid Instructor trained so the safety if my clients are always at the front of everything I do. On top of everything i just finished my first faith based children’s book for conservation education it will be published soon!

I specialize in teaching PADIMermaid diving courses & performing on land and underwater while sharing conservation education as i go!
