Today we’d like to introduce you to Dante Nguyen.
Hi Dante, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for music curation started with burning mixtapes and making playlists for friends back in high school. This led to me starting my official DJ journey in 2018. I used to go to open decks nights religiously (open decks is like open mic for DJs). These nights were hosted at former Austin bars like Scratch House and Plush. I would show up after work with my USB eager to play outside of my bedroom and make new DJ friends.
Since then I’ve built a strong presence performing at bars, nightclubs, DIY warehouses, museums, hotels, weddings, festivals and major events across Texas. I’ve appeared at SXSW as an official artist for seven consecutive years from 2019 through 2026 and have worked with brands and organizations including Urban Outfitters, TCA, Future Front, Frida Friday, Interplanetary Help Desk, HAAM, Las Ofrendas, DSQO, and the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a journey! When I first started DJing, I was queer and nonbinary and I was still figuring out how I wanted to show up in these spaces while also trying to be taken seriously as an artist. Now, as a trans man, I feel much more grounded in who I am, but I still navigate being visibly trans in nightlife and all the assumptions that can come with that.
I think those experiences have made me more confident in taking up space and creating spaces where other people can feel comfortable being themselves too.

Hi my name is Dante Nguyen (he/they) also known by my stage name – Supermcn4sty. I’m a trans Vietnamese American open format DJ, producer, and event organizer based in Austin, Texas. I specialize in high energy, genre spanning sets, where I seamlessly blend Chicago house, regional hip hop/R&B, bass, Northeastern club music, and global club rhythms to create unforgettable dance floor experiences.
I’m most proud of the friends I’ve met along the way and the events I curate which are all about good music, connection, and movement. I have 2 party series where I curate local and regional DJs – Love Theory, a party dedicated to feel good vibes, and Space Jam, which explores the depths of underground club music.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Honestly just do it when it comes to your craft. Even if you’re scared, tired, or feel like you’re not ready. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You just have to make it exist. You can always make adjustments and figure things out along the way.
