Today we’d like to introduce you to Esperanza Flores.
Hi Esperanza, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in the early 2000s I had many things to draw inspiration from.
I would spend my early childhood parading around envisioning what life would be like if I could somehow put out things I created and be recognized for doing so just like the people I looked up too had done.
I searched tirelessly until I found someone willing to put me in front of the camera – at the time I was not even in high school yet, (summer of 8th grade to be exact) but my passion was clear and that was that I would one day be recognized for my talent.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was born from an immigrant mother and a Houstonian father so naturally breaking in into the fashion industry was something they could not aid me with due to their own hardships. Despite being 14 & with very limited resources, I understood that talent could take me places that perhaps connections or insight could not. If I had trouble with my new found venture, this was not something I could discuss at the dinner table and receive empathy instead, I received blank stairs and a quick motivational comment. So nothing came to me easily. I had to put my talent at the forefront and work strategically.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the largest brands in the country like Tecovas, Jarritos and even a Texas university among many others. But to me, there is no greater honor than being reached out to by a local company started by a young entrepreneur because that tells me that they see something in me which connects with the early stages of their vision
I am a pisces, I identify as a multifaceted vessel of the universe who receives creative ideas to put into the world. Modeling happens to be my breaking point into the fashion industry, but I am simply a vessel for creativity and if brands identify with that in me then I’m there!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I have learned on my journey is that things don’t have to be done according to a traditional timeline. Both young and old we are often told that satisfaction only arrives after a cookie cutter accomplishment but you are allowed to pursue several different unrelated goals at any given moment
A quote I often reference is when Natalie Portman said “I’m going to college. I don’t care if it ruins my career. I’d rather be smart than a movie star”
She understood that you don’t have to do things traditionally whatever that may look like for you
