Meet Faith Alvarado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Alvarado.

Hi Faith, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began as a young girl with the dream of becoming a labor and delivery nurse. I was always fascinated by the science and miracle of giving birth, and I later had an amazing nurse by my side as I delivered my own son, which only solidified my desire to do that for others. After completing nursing school, I achieved my goal and became a labor and delivery nurse. I completed a graduate residency program and worked in Labor and Delivery for about three years, including the postpartum care unit and the newborn nursery. As much as I loved working in Women’s Services, I had a hard time switching between night shifts and caring for a young child during the day. Luckily, I met an anesthesiologist who offered me a day position as a perianesthesia nurse. I had never considered working in the field of anesthesia, but thoroughly enjoyed it and continued as a perianesthesia nurse for six years, becoming a Clinical Manager in the process.

During my time in the surgical setting, I was exposed to various cosmetic procedures, which led to my desire of become an Aesthetic Nurse. At this point in my career, I was searching for a change that would allow me more autonomy and bring me closer to utilizing my creativity and craft. I believe aesthetic nursing is the perfect bridge between my profession and passion. So this past Summer, I made the switch to perioperative nursing at a plastic surgery and cosmetic clinic. Here, I am able to learn about various surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. My ultimately goal is to became certified in multiple nonsurgical procedures and hopefully establish my own client base. As of now, I am training in Microblading but quickly realizing this can be an entire career on its own! I should be certified in the next month or so, and I am very excited to see where this opportunity will take me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has definitely had its challenges. My toughest struggle was being a young mother trying to finish nursing school. There were many times that I considered quitting or postponing school temporary because it was so difficult to balance school life with family time, but that’s a growing pain all parents will eventually have to learn along the way regardless of where they are in their life. I also knew that I had to complete school FOR my child. I was doing this for his future. I was doing this to serve others as a nurse in the healthcare field. I wanted him to see that the most rewarding achievements come hard earned. I wouldn’t recommend my route to everyone, but this struggle gave me a scene of strength that I can do just about anything, and it will stay with me long into my future endeavors.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
If I could sum up my professional career and what sets me apart from others, it’s that I believe I have developed a diverse set of skills over the years that have prepared me for my exact position today. I am experienced in the operating room (OR), anesthesia, clinical management, and sales, all of which are necessary for my success in the medical cosmetic field. In addition to profession skills, I believe I am artistically talented and have a natural eye for aesthetics. I grew up loving cosmetics and creative crafting, which resulted in an affinity for symmetry and the ability to see errors in the details. These traits are highly beneficial for working in facial aesthetics.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Of course, I wouldn’t be where I am without my family. My mother and sisters were always so encouraging with any goal I’ve ever had. They saw my abilities and talent when I sometimes couldn’t. As I move closer to performing nonsurgical and aesthetic procedures, I have had the best support and networking resources. Sometimes it’s not what you know, but who, and many doors have opened up for me thanks to my new work team. I also have to mention that those in the Microblading business have been nothing but helpful and resourceful. There is a noncompetitive unity amongst these entrepreneurs, and I hope to become a part of this specialized cohort soon.
