Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Daniel-Deal.
Hi Faith, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Anne Deal and Faith Daniel-Deal moved to Florence, Texas to start a regenerative farm in January 2022. In order to help fund this venture, Anne was hired on as a barista at Dwell House Coffee and Tap, that opened in February of 2023. She had no experience. she quickly moved up to lead barista and eventually head roaster. Faith Daniel-Deal was hired on to do consulting had taken over staffing, scheduling, and finance. when the original owner intended to sell, we were given the opportunity to purchase the business turnkey. Our parents/in laws Kim and Ben Daniel were excited to retain business in the rustic small town and offered to go in as a four way partnership. Since taking over last year, the family has worked hard to maintain and increase business for Florence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been some struggles with tarriffs on imported coffee, operation expenses and repairs, but we have always found a way to make it work and keep providing a quality product to Florence and the surrounding areas.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The goal of the coffee shop was to create a community gathering space. We’ve partnered with the other local businesses to provide donuts from the donut shop, tacos from the Mexican restaurant, and sandwiches from the diner two doors down and ice cream from a local snack shop. The coffee shop hosts bible studies, weekly meet ups, pint nights, baking competitions, and more.
The coffee is roasted in house and shipped all over the country and we focus on balanced drinks that are just the right sweetness and warmth to get your day going, though we have nothing against a nice, sweet, iced latte. through the week we’re open 7am to 2pm but on Thursday, Friday, Saturday we’re open 7am- 7pm so people can enjoy a cold beer or glass of wine in a relaxed, welcoming environment with their friends and loved ones.
The shop is designed to welcome all ages. we have a variety of games, coloring pages, books for all including a free little library where you can take a book and bring another if you’d like. we also host a printer for the work from homers or students who need to knock out some work and print their deliverables.
Located on historic main street in Florence, Texas, the shop hosts live music every First Friday of the month. the whole town comes out to main street to shop, eat, drink, and hang out. Those of us at Dwell house are huge fans of First Friday. We also host second Sunday which is a market for local vendors to set up at the shop and sell everything from baked good to plants to custom engraving.
As the town of Florence grows, the shop looks forward to growing with it. It was such a unique and exciting opportunity to run a coffee shop in a town where the slogan is ‘ a great place to gather’ because we feel like Dwell House really is a great place to gather.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Learning to create a sense of belonging in the atmosphere. We want to serve the community more than just a cup of coffee.
