Today we’d like to introduce you to Francheska Martinez.
Hi Francheska, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up as a dancer, beginning at the age of three. At nine, I sustained my first injury—a sprained knee—and was told by a doctor that a muscle imbalance was the underlying cause. Minor injuries continued throughout my dance training, but I didn’t think much of them at the time; instead, I learned to push through the pain.
At twelve, I experienced my first spinal injury: a fracture in my lower back. At that same appointment, I was also diagnosed with scoliosis. Despite this, I remained active throughout my teenage years, though I continued to struggle with chronic back pain.
When I got to college, I wanted to learn how to change my body composition and strength train safely, without risking further injury. That led me to enroll in a Fitness Training elective—an experience that reignited my passion for movement and ultimately inspired me to pursue a degree in Exercise Sports Science.
Over the past ten years, I have built a career helping others feel empowered, strong, and confident in their bodies. Given my own history, it’s perhaps no sur
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, but I believe struggle is simply part of life. I think it’s unrealistic to expect a path without challenges, so I don’t dwell much on the difficulties I’ve faced along the way. If anything, those struggles taught me to be highly self-reliant as a business owner and to stay focused on long-term goals.
One challenge I faced early in my career was working in toxic, male-dominated environments with outdated attitudes toward women in the workplace. That experience is what motivated me to start my own business early on.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a personal trainer, my work is all about helping people unlock their full potential in movement and strength. My approach to working with clients one-on-one is rooted in providing guidance and facilitating learning. My goal isn’t just to leave clients sweaty and sore after a workout, but to train the body and brain together for long-term results.
I’m known primarily as a mobility coach who teaches ANIMAL FLOW, but I believe my work goes far deeper than that. My real gift lies in teaching movement and breaking down biomechanics in a way that’s digestible and translates directly into strength training.
What I’m most proud of is helping clients get out of pain and back to the activities they love. There is nothing more satisfying than watching them accomplish something they once thought was unattainable.
One client I’m particularly proud of had a spinal injury that left her unable to walk; doctors told her she would need crutches or a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Three years into our work together, she’s feeling better than she has in years, deadlifting pain-free, and continuing to see progress in her training.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Attending continuing education seminars is how I’ve found some of my favorite mentors, where a friendship or mentor/mentee relationship develops organically. I think the most important factor is connecting with people you genuinely resonate with and who share similar values. What has worked well for me is never outright seeking mentors, but instead allowing those relationships to flourish naturally over time.
When I met one of my most impactful mentors, I was convinced for years that he hated me. Over time, though, we built a genuine friendship, and to this day, he remains one of my movement mentors, continuing to share guidance with me.
