Meet Glen Taylor of Rub Massage Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glen Taylor.

Hi Glen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been lucky enough to follow two different passions of mine in this life, performance and bodywork. After spending over 13 years touring with different international musical theater productions as a professional dancer, singer, actor and gymnast, I recognized quickly how regular massage and bodywork could keep me functioning at my peak performance level.

As a dancer, you’re always in tune with your body. The aches and pains and where they’re located and for me, self-bodywork and massage became something I did regularly. At the age of 35, the repetitive stress of dancing for so many years had finally caused pretty bad deterioration in my L4 and L5 vertebra. Unfortunately, the pain became too much to take and I knew that a new career path was soon on the horizon.

At 36, I enrolled in a family owned, therapeutic massage-based massage school in my hometown of San Antonio, TX. I ended up graduating first in my class and went on to become Board certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork. I always knew that Austin was going to be my home and where I wanted to set up shop. In 2011, Rub Massage Austin was born.

As a massage therapist, I use a fusion of deep tissue, sport and therapeutic massage and layer it with advanced bodywork techniques like trigger point therapy, Myofascial release, cross fiber friction and stretching and ROM integration to help correct muscular imbalances, release fascial restrictions, remove painful spasms and work out any stubborn trigger points within the musculature. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work as an athletic team massage therapist for The University of Texas working with the track, football and basketball teams as well as currently working as the resident massage therapist for The Zachary Scott Theater cast and crews.

Over the past 15 years I’ve worked on everyone from professional athletes, musicians, Broadway performers, politicians to celebrities as well as special cases like fibromyalgia, frozen shoulder, piriformis syndrome, TMJ, vertigo and migraines. I provide personalized advanced muscular therapy for today’s active individual dealing with chronic or acute pain and discomfort. My business motto is Move. Repair. Repeat. Do what you love to do in this life and then come see me, so I can do what I love to do. No frills here, just results.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle for me came after my doctor’s appointment where I was told that I needed to stop dancing or my back would be damaged permanently. I really had done all that I wanted to do in the world of performance, but saying goodbye to that amazing part of my life was extremely hard.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe that we make our own luck. I definitely had a vision of how I saw my life when it came to being a professional performer. I trained, worked hard, and reached my goals. When life threw me a curveball, I followed the same path only with massage and bodywork. I trained, worked hard and have now exceeded my goals.
