Hi Jay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hawaii Nei Cafe
My family and I moved from Hawaii to Austin Texas in the summer of 2017. By March of 2018 we created our humble small business Hawaii Nei Cafe, LLC.
When we arrived in Austin we were hard pressed to find any restaurants that offered the flavors from our home state Hawaii. It was a challenge for the first year, but through 2019, we added corporate catering and doubled our revenue for the year. We planned to make 2020 an explosive year for our company. Unfortunately, we like everyone else had to adapt to a global pandemic.
Fast forward to today, we now exclusively provide our services at the Tesla headquarters, XAi, SpaceX, Firefly aerospace and a few other corporate entities. We enjoy our current business model, but from time to time miss being a small neighborhood staple.
What we have learned on this journey with Hawaii Nei Cafe, is that it is just as much about the people we serve as it is about the food we provide. Very quickly the relationship with our customers becomes a first name basis. Hawaii Nei means this is Hawaii and with that being said, we do have an obligation to represent the food and culture we have come from.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the struggles were financing, staffing, a pandemic and a softening economy.
As you know, we’re big fans of Hawaii Nei Cafe, LLC . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We operate a Mobile restaurant including catering, that services corporate entities. We provide pan Asian (Hawaiian food and Poké). We are known for our delicious and health friendly options. Along with our excellent customer service.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Sharing the culture and food from our home state (HI). Also, just being kind to others. It feels good to make someone smill and feel welcome.
