Meet Jenn Aguilar of Bulletproof Bookkeeping, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Aguilar.

Hi Jenn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Texas before spending my high school and college years in Mississippi, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University. I eventually returned to Texas and continued my education while working full-time, earning my Master of Accountancy from UTSA.

My professional career began in public accounting, where I spent more than a decade preparing business, individual, and nonprofit tax returns and working closely with organizations of all sizes. During those years, I gained a deep appreciation for the role accurate financial information plays in helping leaders make decisions. I also saw that many business owners and nonprofit board members were wearing multiple hats and often didn’t have the time or resources to focus on the financial side of their organizations.

In 2022, I took a leap of faith and started Bulletproof Bookkeeping. The name itself was inspired by Ephesians 6 and the Armor of God, a reminder that faith, integrity, and preparation are important foundations in both life and business. My goal was to create a firm that provides more than bookkeeping. I wanted to use my tax and accounting background to help clients understand their financial information, communicate effectively with their CPA, and ultimately free them up to focus on what they do best—running their businesses, serving their customers, and fulfilling their missions. Today, I have the privilege of serving businesses and nonprofit organizations right here in New Braunfels.

Along the way, I’ve become deeply involved in the New Braunfels community. This year marks my 10th year as a New Braunfels Jaycee, where I currently serve as President and am in my fourth year on the Board of Directors. Through the Jaycees, the Leadership New Braunfels program, service on the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Board, and other community involvement, I’ve had the opportunity to build incredible relationships and work alongside people who are passionate about making our community stronger.

When I first joined the New Braunfels Jaycees, I was simply looking for a way to get involved in the community and meet new people. I had no idea the organization would help shape my leadership skills, introduce me to lifelong friendships, open doors to incredible opportunities, and ultimately lead me to serve as President.
Many of the relationships and experiences that have had the greatest impact on my personal and professional life can be traced back to that decision to get involved.

Looking back, my journey has been shaped by a willingness to say “yes” to opportunities that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Whether it was returning to school for my master’s degree, starting my own business, volunteering for a committee, or stepping into leadership roles, each experience opened doors I never could have planned for. I’m incredibly grateful for the mentors, clients, friends, and community organizations that have helped shape both my career and my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for most worthwhile things in life.

One of the biggest challenges was earning my Master’s degree while working in public accounting. During tax season, 60-plus hour workweeks were often the norm, so balancing graduate coursework alongside an already demanding career required a great deal of discipline and commitment. There were plenty of late nights, early mornings, and moments when I questioned whether I had taken on too much. Looking back, that experience taught me perseverance, time management, and the importance of pushing through temporary discomfort to achieve long-term goals.

Starting my own business was another leap of faith. When you’re employed by someone else, there’s a certain level of predictability and security. As a business owner, you’re responsible for everything—from serving clients and managing deadlines to technology, marketing, and business development. In the beginning, there were certainly moments of uncertainty, but I trusted the relationships I had built, the experience I had gained, and my faith that God was leading me in the right direction.

Perhaps the biggest challenge has been learning how to balance all of the things I care deeply about. I love serving my clients, volunteering in the community, supporting local nonprofits, being involved with the Jaycees, and spending time with family and friends. The reality is that there are always more opportunities than there is time. As someone who genuinely enjoys helping others, I’ve had to learn that every good opportunity isn’t necessarily my opportunity. Learning when to say no has been just as important as learning when to say yes.

Over the years, I’ve also learned that leadership isn’t about doing everything yourself—it’s about building relationships, empowering others, and understanding where you can make the greatest impact. Some of my most meaningful experiences have come from stepping outside my comfort zone and trusting the process, even when I didn’t know exactly where it would lead.

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned through all of it, it’s that growth usually happens just outside your comfort zone. Looking back, the opportunities that have had the greatest impact on my life and career were often the ones that felt the most intimidating when I first said yes to them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bulletproof Bookkeeping, LLC is a full-service bookkeeping firm based in New Braunfels, Texas. I work with small businesses and nonprofit organizations throughout Central Texas, providing bookkeeping, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting support, and ongoing financial guidance.

What sets my firm apart is the combination of bookkeeping expertise and a strong tax and accounting background. Before launching Bulletproof Bookkeeping, I spent more than a decade in public accounting preparing business, individual, and nonprofit tax returns and working closely with organizations of all sizes. That experience allows me to look beyond simply recording transactions and instead help clients understand how their day-to-day financial decisions impact the bigger picture.

While bookkeeping is at the core of what I do, my clients often rely on me as a trusted financial resource. Whether it’s preparing board-ready financial reports, coordinating with a CPA during tax season, navigating nonprofit compliance requirements, or helping a business owner understand the story behind their numbers, my goal is to simplify the financial side of running an organization. I enjoy helping bridge the gap between an organization’s operations, leadership, and accounting professionals so everyone is working from the same information.

I have a special passion for serving nonprofit organizations because they play such an important role in our communities. Nonprofit leaders are often balancing limited resources while trying to maximize their impact, and I enjoy helping provide the financial clarity and structure that allows them to focus on their mission.

The thing I’m most proud of isn’t a specific service or accomplishment—it’s the trust my clients place in me. I don’t want business owners spending their evenings trying to figure out bookkeeping or nonprofit leaders worrying about financial reports before a board meeting. I want them focused on growing their businesses, serving their customers, advancing their missions, and spending time with their families. Being a trusted resource and a small part of their success is incredibly rewarding.

The name Bulletproof Bookkeeping was inspired by Ephesians 6:10-18 and the Armor of God. When I launched the firm, I shared that it was built on more than spreadsheets and numbers—it was built on faith. To me, being “bulletproof” means standing firm in truth, grace, and purpose while trusting that God equips us for the work He calls us to do. Those principles continue to guide how I serve my clients and run my business today.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m excited about the future because I feel like I’m in a season of growth, both professionally and personally.

For Bulletproof Bookkeeping, my focus is on continuing to serve clients well while thoughtfully growing the business. I’ve always believed that growth should never come at the expense of quality or relationships, so my goal is to continue building a firm that clients trust and rely on. One area I’m particularly excited about is expanding the ways Bulletproof can support clients in the future and creating an even more seamless financial experience for the businesses and nonprofit organizations I serve.

This year marks my 10th year as a New Braunfels Jaycee and the privilege of serving as President of the organization. The Jaycees have played a tremendous role in my personal and professional development, and I look forward to helping ensure the organization remains strong and sustainable for future generations of young leaders. One of the things I’m most passionate about is helping others discover the same opportunities for leadership development, community service, and meaningful relationships that the Jaycees have provided for me over the past decade.

On a personal level, I’m continually working toward finding a healthy balance between business, leadership, family, faith, and personal growth. As someone who naturally enjoys serving others and saying yes to opportunities, I’m learning the value of being intentional with my time and focusing on the things that matter most.

More than anything, I’m looking forward to continuing to learn, grow, and serve. Some of the greatest opportunities in my life have come through relationships, community involvement, and unexpected doors opening along the way. While I may not know exactly what the future holds, I’m excited to see where God leads next and how I can continue using my gifts to serve others.
