Meet Jourdan Kerl of Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jourdan Kerl

Hi Jourdan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sure! I started as a host/presenter at Prairie View A&M. I worked as an assistant for athletics covering sports. Once I went to graduate school at Northwestern, I pivoted to esports/gaming but also did sports too. During my time there, I worked many different events, such as NBA All-Star 2018, Chicago esports, Chicago Sky games, League of Legends, Houston’s Summer League, Xbox’s Gears of War esports scene, NBA 2K League and more. Once my graduate degree was complete, I went on to work as a production assistant in DC with the Washington Mystics and the esports affiliate of the Wizards. During this time I still worked as a host and interviewer. I attribute a lot of the work I’ve been able to do today to the connections I made during my time at Northwestern.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it hasn’t always been a smooth road. As a freelancer, I often find myself waiting on the next opportunity with no certainty of when it’ll come.

The times have changed with how to become a host now. Most people are influencers with larger followings, so I’m working on trying to build my brand now! That’s been one of the toughest challenges lately.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional, interviewer and presenter. My speciality is in sports and gaming, but I have experience covering many different topics including lifestyle and general news stories.

I have been most proud of the work I did at Anime Expo in 2023. That was one of my favorite events that I ever did.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to research and preparation before going into interviewing. I believe the best journalists and hosts do the legwork before you ever sit for a conversation.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am appreciative of this opportunity! I want to get back into sports coverage one day, so I’m hoping to do that now that I have returned to Texas from Los Angeles.
