Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Jae.
Hi Krystal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hey, Hey. I am a Trauma Recovery Coach, Speaker, and Author that empowers women to break free from trauma, live empowered lives, and accept their authentic selves while living with purpose and passion. Over the last 20 years, I’ve helped women overcome physical, emotional, psychological & mental abuse along with the triggers and decisions that come with them by providing guidance, wisdom, knowledge, and a listening ear while inspiring, empowering & pouring positivity while guiding the way with healing processes & therapeutic art. My platform empowers women to discover their authentic selves and break the bounds holding them back. Even more essential is for me to reach as many women as possible and guide them through what I call “Empowered Transformational Healing.” To provide the best opportunity for them, I will always remain open and share my life journey, the good, bad, and the ugly.
This mission is important to me because I once was in a dark lonely place, and no one knew about it. You see, I am the “strong” one and always have my stuff together, yeah, right. Well, little did they know I was suffering in silence. Car rides by myself sometimes include crying instead of jam sessions, gasping for air in the shower because I have broken down hard crying, body tight, and trying my best to be silent without my family hearing me cry. Being a listening ear while wishing I had one for myself.
I have had a history of sexual, mental, physical, and emotional abuse. I attended and participated in therapy several times. Been on medication and leaned heavily on prayer. One day, I quickly learned in a challenging, gut-wrenching, heart-piercing, breathtaking way that processing and moving on was not and is not the true way to healing. That period of my mental breakdown was the darkest, with no emotion or feelings place I have ever been. Knowing that I did not want anyone else to suffer as I did, my kids and husband have given me the power to ask for help. I prayed and asked for guidance, answers, and knowledge for proper healing. I listened to the advice of doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists. Still, I also took courses and received certifications to gain an understanding and discover a natural process that works for overcoming abuse and the triggers of trauma. But it’s not just about overcoming trauma—it’s about rewiring our nervous systems so that our minds, brain, and body can be on one accord and know that the triggers for the trauma that once existed will no longer activate our fight-or-flight response. Trauma can leave us feeling lost, broken, and disconnected from ourselves and the world. It can make it difficult to enjoy life and experience happiness. That is why I am grateful that I have overcome and now embracing my full authentic life with purpose and passion while on my empowered transformational healing journey.
Now, I focus on providing the empowered transformational healing sisterhood for other women to embrace the essence of their soul, strength, and beauty while enjoying the inner peace they can claim without the pain, loneliness, confusion, and self-doubt that comes with abuse and trauma. This sisterhood/platform includes my book Empowered Women Inspired Vision: Wisdom, Inspiration, Guidance, and Empowerment for Women; Empowerment Coloring Book For Women: Relaxation and Stress-Free; Break Free From Trauma Program; You Are Enough Course; membership program, weekly sessions; events such as Empower Your Inner Goddess: Mind, Body & Soul on July 28, 2023, in Georgetown and so much more.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
My road has not been smooth. There were some navigation issues, bumps, ditches, flat tires, and even engine trouble. I was excited to reach out, guide, and share my wisdom with more women. Then I had to decide what and how I wanted to share my life publicly. At first, I held back because I did not want to hurt or shame the people in my life at one point or another. I also knew I wanted to share my story, which required me to be fully vulnerable. At the same time, I knew that certain people in my life would not understand what I was doing or why. I looked at my daughter and knew that I had to come forward and start the ripple effect of breaking generational, emotional, mental, sexual, and physical traumas. I knew I did not want her or my niece to know the pain I once felt, so to do that, I had to be 100% vulnerable, and I am.
- Is it hard being me sometimes? Of course.
- Did I lose some people along the way? Yes, but some people are in your life for only a season and not a lifetime.
- Did I gain people? Yes. Honestly, I go through the things I did instead for my daughter, niece, sisters, etc., to suffer through their journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Trauma Recovery Coach and Empowerment Goddess. As a Trauma Recovery Coach, Women have started healing journeys from the bounds of trauma like addiction, self-doubt, isolation, relationship issues, etc., to now thriving with purpose and authenticity while finally the true inner peace and joy of life. Who do you know?
The Empowerment Goddess is a name that was given to me. When I asked the lady why that name, she followed up by telling me that I was a huge inspiration and empowered her in her journey. Moments like that are a blessing and show that I follow my purpose.
I am proud to live a positive, inspiring, joyous, authentic life while embracing who I am authentically. When I get asked what makes me unique, I automatically say me. The answer is being my authentic self. I have gone through the process of taking habits, teachings, etc., from my life and then sprinkling in pieces that are me and not family, friends, or other things we pick up from the moment we come out of the womb. Another thing that makes me different is my vulnerability, my passion, my story, my guidance, my wisdom, my love, my focus, and my skills. I should also add Therapeutic Art and Trauma Informed Certified in that—wink wink.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Oh my gosh! Growing up, I was shy, fearful, a tomboy, and full of love but confused about who Krystal was. I have always loved kids, been babysitting for as long as I can remember. A friend and I even passed fliers advertising ourselves as the babysitters club. Lol. Young Krystal was a follower, never spoke up for herself, and wanted to be accepted.
My grandparents raised me, and my grandmother would try to put me in a dress and get me all dolled up whenever she could. I was a cute little girl, if I say so myself. My cousins and I had a great time playing and roaming the streets. One year I received this big boom box for Christmas, and I just knew I was all that and a bag of chips. Hehe. My cousins and I would walk around the neighborhood, taking turns carrying it while blasting everything from the oldies, jazz, blues, r&b to hip hop. Then other times, we would be at my grandfather’s mechanic shop or climbing trees or the house, lol. Two of my cousins lost grip of my hands once, and I fell on top of a motor sitting under the tree. Ouch! It sucked badly. My collarbone was broken, and I had to wear a full upper-body cast. My grandmother was so protective after that. She wouldn’t let me go outside while I was in the cast. So I would sit in front of the screen door, watching everyone play. They did come to the door and chat sometimes.
