Meet Leo Crimbley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leo Crimbley.

Hi Leo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My start in music spans back to singing around the house when I was as young as five, whether it was copying the sounds of whatever Luther Vandross song was playing or making up my own tunes from scratch. It was nothing I took seriously but more of a thing that made me feel good. I started to get a better idea of how to control my voice once I joined my 8th grade choir and continued on through high school, just to make sure I was able to get my elective credits because football was no longer my thing. After high school. It went back to a one off hobby and something I did while cleaning until 2020 hit and everyone was finding different hobbies to occupy the copious amount of free time they had. I realized I wasn’t the best at making banana bread and tried my hand at writing which is what led to me creating my very first song “Twin Flame”.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I can’t say it’s all been smooth as I had to go through a multitude of things to create the stories in my songs, but with the belief my friends and family had in my passion for music, we were able to meet all the right people to make this what I believe to be a succeed start in the first year of doing music.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an R&B singer based out of Austin, Texas and I focus my sound primarily on the influences that I’ve grown up with whether it Lionel Richie, Luther, Usher or even Giveon. The thing that has made me so proud about this process are the wins along the way one of those being winning the outstanding music video award for my music video “black Leather” at the 2021 Micheaux film festival which was directed by my good friend Jeremy Feight and co-stared by my also good friend And talented actress Chelsea Diane. What I feel sets me apart is I try to keep the power dynamic in my songs between men and women equal to help show the back and forth and struggle that love plays in our adult lives.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risks seem to be the one thing you can’t avoid when it comes to trying to make it in music, you find yourself having to trust strangers to really get your big moment and that seemed to be something that I became aware of early on. I invested a good amount of money in an individual that promised the world, but I soon learned that the only one to benefit would be them. Thank god for banking disputes, lol.
