Meet Luz Lopez-Guerrero of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luz Lopez-Guerrero.

Hi Luz, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am known for my community engagement, leadership dedicated to connecting individuals and families especially within underserved and Latino communities to meaningful healthcare resources and support.

With a background in healthcare, business development, and provider relations, she brings a well-rounded perspective to building partnerships and expanding community outreach. A former Medical Assistant and former Licensed Insurance Agent, I like to combine clinical knowledge with strategic insight to better serve those in need.

Passionate about advocating for caregivers and aging populations and serving on several boards. A board member for AGE of Central Texas, where she helps raise awareness around caregiver support, mental health, and access to resources. A member of HABLA and The RBJ Board.

Known for my authenticity and heart for service, I am committed to strengthening our community and ensuring no one feels alone in their healthcare journey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Obstacles and struggles along the way have been my understanding that some assistance is not accepted. This stems from the lack of knowledge or cultural stigma.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My professional work stems around Caregiving, Hospice and the benefits families and their love are provided. Helping families understand that the family and their loved ones come first.

I’m passionate about connecting individuals and families—especially within underserved and Latino communities—to meaningful resources and support. With a background in healthcare and business development, I look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships and serving our communities with purpose.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson learned along the way is how to educate my own family members about mental health and substance abuse. Having had a child that suffered from mental health, and as an early teenager began substance abuse. It was difficult to educate my family that bipolar is not just a condition but an illness and so is substance abuse.

I have learned that in the Latino community you just don’t talk openly about these matters. This is were our families suffer more and does no good for our loved one.
