Meet Michelle Savage of Sulit Press

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Savage.

Michelle Savage

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I began writing professionally in 2010, initially as a lifestyle journalist (where I wrote about food and fashion). I then spent a decade helping entrepreneurs and small businesses with content strategy and copywriting. Simultaneously, I worked with authors to help them write, edit and market their books, which became my primary focus in 2021. Shifting from content creator to author mentor allowed me to spend more time editing books and creating strategies for book launches – all things I love doing. However, I didn’t love how disappointed my authors were with their publishing experiences. I watched multiple authors sign publishing contracts that looked good up front, but the services they received ranged from sub-par to abysmal. That is when I decided to expand from author mentor to publisher. With the express goal of providing non-fiction authors with the most thoughtful and comprehensive publishing experience possible, I created Sulit Press. We officially launched in September 2022 (the day I hit ‘publish’ on our website), and we now have a rockstar team in place and lots of projects in the works. This spring, we published our first multi-author book, which became a bestseller on Amazon in 5 categories on the first day. Since then, we’ve started three other multi-author book projects, created a Manuscript Mastermind, and have several more books preparing to launch this year and next.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Time feels like my biggest obstacle. I always want things to happen quickly and be perfectly executed, which is impossible. Everything takes longer the first time we do it because we are setting up systems that we want to replicate and know are sustainable. We’re researching best practices and studying data as we lay the foundation, and it’s a constant process of taking action, assessment, and refinement.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Sulit Press is a boutique publishing house that provides high-touch support to help authors write, publish, and market their non-fiction books. From personal memoirs and industry-specific books to being featured in a multi-author book project, we help authors transition from aspiring authors to published authors! Personalized coaching is a cornerstone of our author-centered approach. Whether the goal is to become a speaker, grow a business, or stand out as an authority and thought leader, we teach our authors how to leverage their books to reach their goals.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Few things bring me more joy than helping authors realize their dream of getting published. I love watching someone’s face light up the first time they hold a book in their hands with their name on the cover. I believe every person has a story worth sharing and you don’t have to be the top dog in your field or have done something incredibly daring. I often remind authors, “No one else on earth has lived through your exact experiences or can write about them from your unique perspective.” Stories inspire us, educate us and connect us with each other, and that’s a powerful thing.
