Meet Nicole Parish of National

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Parish.

Hi Nicole, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a curious person, and looking back, I can see that I’ve been intuitive for as long as I can remember. The first time I remember seeing a spirit, I was three years old. My mom tells me it actually happened even earlier, but that’s my earliest memory.

As I grew up, I would sense things about people and situations that I couldn’t explain. Sometimes it was comforting. Other times it felt overwhelming. Alongside those experiences was a quiet but unwavering knowing that I was connected to something much bigger than myself. Something loving, intelligent, and deeply mysterious. Even as a child, I felt I could communicate with that world.

When I was eight years old, I began remembering what I now understand as past lives. One memory stood out vividly. I remembered being a woman who healed people with plants. I didn’t know the word “herbalist” or even have the concept of a village healer, so I told my mom, “I used to be a witch who helped sick people get better with plants.” Thankfully, she never dismissed my experiences. She listened, asked questions, and loved me through all of it. To this day, she’s still my biggest cheerleader.

Throughout elementary and middle school, my experiences continued. I sensed energy through feelings, saw colors and balls of light, and often felt the presence of spirits. I didn’t fully understand what I was experiencing, but oddly enough, it felt natural. I always had the sense that Spirit was gently teaching me, one experience at a time.

Every now and then, something would happen that felt impossible to ignore. Sometimes I would hear my dad’s thoughts moments before he spoke them out loud. Looking back, I believe my telepathy was strongest with him because, at times, I was afraid of him. Years later, I came to understand that many children develop heightened intuition as a way of staying safe. It can become a survival skill.

One experience especially stayed with me. I suddenly found myself in a relative’s living room, which I had never been. Family members were gathered together, crying because my uncle had just died. Moments later, I was back where I had been before. Soon afterward, we learned that my uncle had indeed passed away. What confused me wasn’t the experience itself. Being somewhere else felt strangely natural. What confused me was that no one talked about these things. I didn’t have the language for what was happening, and I began to feel like the black sheep of the family. Different, carrying experiences I didn’t know how to explain.

By high school, my intuition seemed to unfold in distinct phases. Each phase brought a new ability or a deeper understanding of the unseen world. Looking back now, at 55, I can see that this pattern has continued throughout my life.
One of the most difficult phases began during high school. I call it my “death phase.”

Without warning, I would suddenly find myself inside the awareness of someone I had never met, just moments before they died.

One morning during first period, while sitting in class, it was drizzling outside. In an instant, I was no longer in my classroom. I was in the back seat of a car, experiencing everything through the eyes of a girl named Nancy. I had no idea who she was, but I knew the two boys in the front seat were her brother and her boyfriend. They were running late for school. As we approached a railroad crossing, I saw the train coming. The driver accelerated, trying to beat it. I could feel Nancy’s heart pounding. She wanted to say something but couldn’t get the words out.

Then the train struck.

Instantly, I was back in my classroom, sobbing at my desk while my classmates looked at me in confusion.
Experiences like this happened numerous times throughout those years. I would suddenly be immersed in someone else’s final moments and then return to my own life just as quickly. Reading the newspaper or seeing an obituary in the days that followed often helped me understand who the person had been. Those experiences were emotionally exhausting, but even then, I carried a quiet hope that perhaps I had been there to make their crossing over to the other side easier.

Those early experiences eventually led me to seek answers and a deeper understanding of what I was experiencing. I often begged God to send me a mentor. Someone who could explain what was happening and help me make sense of it all. But this was long before the internet, online communities, podcasts, or the abundance of books that exist today. Finding guidance felt nearly impossible, and for many years I believed I was walking a lonely path.

Looking back, though, I realize I was never truly alone. My spirit guides had been my teachers all along, gently guiding me through each experience and helping me grow one step at a time. They helped me develop my abilities with greater understanding, confidence, and discernment.

Today, I have the privilege of offering psychic readings and teaching intuition development. One of the greatest joys of my work is helping others trust their own inner knowing so they don’t have to navigate their spiritual journey feeling as alone or confused as I once did.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was growing up with experiences that very few people talked about or understood. I spent years wondering, “Am I the only one this happens to?” I didn’t have the language for what I was experiencing, and there were very few, if any, resources available. Even though I found these experiences fascinating, there were also times I questioned myself, tried to push them aside, or wished I could simply be “normal.”

Another challenge was learning discernment. As an empath and psychic, I often felt emotions or physical sensations that weren’t my own. It took years to learn how to distinguish what belonged to me and what belonged to someone else. Having intuitive abilities didn’t automatically make life easier. In many ways, it made life more confusing because I didn’t have anyone to help me understand what I was experiencing. Learning energetic boundaries became one of the most important lessons of my life, and it’s something I now teach others.

When I was 24, I got married. During my 23-year marriage, I poured my heart into raising our two children and working as a school teacher. My intuition quietly wove its way through my everyday life, and I would occasionally give informal readings to friends or people who crossed my path. But pursuing this work professionally wasn’t something I felt free to do.

My intuitive gifts weren’t embraced within my marriage. For many years, I found myself either defending my experiences or staying quiet about them to keep the peace. Hiding such an important part of who I was was incredibly painful.

After my divorce, something shifted. For the first time, I felt free to fully embrace my calling. I no longer had to apologize for who I was or explain away my experiences. I could simply be myself.

Today, helping people connect with Spirit, find healing, and trust their own intuition is one of the greatest joys of my life. Looking back, I can see that every challenge, including the difficult ones, helped shape me into the person and practitioner I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, helping people connect with Spirit, find healing, and trust their own intuition is one of the greatest joys of my life. Looking back, I can see that every challenge, including the difficult ones, helped shape me into the person and practitioner I am today.

Today, I have the privilege of working as a psychic medium, helping people find clarity, healing, and a deeper connection with themselves and Spirit. I offer psychic readings, teach intuition development classes, and facilitate group events where people can learn, grow, and experience meaningful spiritual connection in a supportive environment.

One thing I love about this work is that no two sessions are ever the same. Sometimes someone is seeking guidance about a life decision. Other times they are grieving the loss of a loved one or wanting reassurance that they’re on the right path. My role is to listen, interpret what I receive as clearly and compassionately as I can, and create a space where people feel safe, seen, and supported.

While I deeply enjoy giving readings, I also adore teaching. I love helping people discover that intuition isn’t a rare gift reserved for a select few. I believe everyone has intuitive abilities, and with practice, discernment, and trust, those abilities can grow. Watching someone recognize their own inner wisdom for the first time is incredibly rewarding.

If there’s something I’m most proud of, it’s the trust people place in me. Whether someone comes to me during a season of grief, personal growth, or for guidance in making an important decision, it’s an honor to be invited into such meaningful moments in their lives. I take that responsibility seriously.

I am pleased to have a combination of intuition, compassion, and practical guidance. My goal isn’t simply to give someone an interesting reading. I want them to leave feeling more empowered than when they arrived. I want them to trust themselves a little more, carry a little more hope, and know they have their own connection to Spirit. If I can help someone discover that within themselves, then I feel I’ve done my job.
