Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger Bohuslav.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am from the Gulfcoast of Texas. I grew up by the beach but also the culture and city of Houston. An art degree from UT-global hopping-experimenting with collage and painting-and now mixed media collage painting with color and textures. I also have taught public school art in Austin for 27 years.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Making a living with an art degree was an eventful job adventure until I became a public art teacher in Austin. Experimenting with what was my inner world to a “ style” wasn’t a struggle but took time and persistence.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a mixed media painter who incorporates/layers -watercolor-fabric/paper collage-and pointillism on paper. My work is colorful- whimsical- vibrant- textured- and maximalist.
I am proud of the happy nature of my art, my persistance, and the expression of my innate joy and painting the things I love.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up luckily in a big family and was surrounded by old school Czech culture mixed with pure Americana. I was quiet/ boisterous at different periods of my youth but always loved music/ nature/ cultures and laughter. I didn’t take or even know an art class existed till at 18 I took an informal drawing class.
