Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott May
Hi Scott, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my photography journey working as a videographer and photographer in 2021 at a summer camp and fell in love with it then. I then returned the next summer as lead of my camps media team and mostly stuck with doing photography that summer. That summer was when I decided after I graduated from college that fall that I wanted to start my own Photography Business once I moved back home. I started my business at the beginning of 2023 shooting everything from weddings to families.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Its had its ups and downs, starting my own business. The first year was a little rough starting from the ground up but it has definitely started to pay off. 2024 has been a very rewarding year with a lot more shoots happening for me and a lot of growth as a photographer and as a business owner.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I mostly take photos of weddings and couples but also do families and senior portraits as well. I take pride in being able to make my couples or whoever im taking photos of laugh and feel comfortable during our session.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think starting a business can be a risk in in of itself, theres no guarantee it will work out. One of the risks ive taken was advertising on a certain wedding service provider website. Shortly after signing a contract for this company I saw a bunch of negative reviews from other vendors complaining that this website was full of fake leads that would lead nowhere. I unfortunately didnt see that beofre I signed up and wasted a lot of money advertising through them.
Pricing:
- My wedding packages start at $1,000 for 3 hours of coverage and they go up to $3,000 for full day coverage
- My couples and portrait prices start at $300 for 20 photos and go up to $700 for 60 photos
