Hi Shadan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I come from the Mandaean community—an ancient ethno-religious people whose spiritual lineage includes baptizing Jesus himself so he could begin his mission to spread the word of God. For thousands of years, Mandaeans have been known as master jewelers. Craftsmanship runs deep in our identity—jewelry is not just our trade, it’s our tradition.
At the age of six, my family and I were forced to flee Iran due to extreme religious persecution. The Iranian regime stripped us of everything—our home, my father’s jewelry stores, our security. We arrived in Chicago as a family of four with just $100 to our name, granted amnesty by the U.S. government. We started over from ground zero, rebuilding our lives with faith, resilience, and grit.
After years in the tech startup world, I found myself burnt out and searching for something more meaningful. That’s when I returned to my roots—to the family business, and to the generational legacy of jewelry-making. But I didn’t just return—I evolved it. By fusing modern technology with old-world craftsmanship, we’ve created something rare.
Today, we specialize in custom jewelry—bringing our clients’ stories, emotions, and visions to life through personalized design. Every piece is a reflection of heritage, innovation, and purpose. This is more than a business—it’s a calling. And it’s one we’re honored to carry forward.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been an easy journey. When my family fled Iran due to religious persecution, we were forced to cross seven borders illegally—risking our lives every step of the way. We were shot at with AK-47s, nearly drowned in a flooded river, and came close to suffocating in a sealed container truck with no ventilation. These weren’t just obstacles—they were defining moments that shaped who I am.
Those experiences built a fire in me—an unshakable resilience and a relentless drive to succeed—not just for myself, but so that my children will never have to endure the things I did. Every hardship became fuel for a greater purpose.
Today, that purpose lives through the innovation I’ve brought into the jewelry industry. By blending tradition with technology, we are not only honoring our Mandaean heritage but also pushing the industry forward in ways that will leave a lasting legacy. This isn’t just about jewelry—it’s about transformation, impact, and rewriting what’s possible.
