Today we’d like to introduce you to Sidu Arroyo.
Hi Sidu, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Pahtia Counseling Center was founded with the hope of creating a therapy practice that focused on deep, lasting healing rather than simply managing symptoms. Early in my work as an educator and school counselor, I saw firsthand how anxiety, trauma, grief, and relational struggles were affecting not just individuals but entire families. I saw how often people were offered quick fixes without truly addressing the deeper root of what they were carrying.
That experience ultimately shaped my desire to build a practice centered on meaningful and transformative care. Work that values relationship, connection, and restoration rather than temporary solutions alone.
The name Pahtia comes from the Nahuatl language, which means “to heal” or “to restore,” which felt especially meaningful to me as someone from a first-generation immigrant family with Indigenous roots. That idea of restoration has remained at the heart of the practice from the beginning.
Pahtia originally started in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where I worked as a school counselor and family therapist in community mental health, but longed for more direct, transformative care with families. After moving to the Texas Hill Country, Pahtia Counseling’s vision grew in Central Texas. What began with just myself and our clinical director has grown into a team of clinicians serving individuals, couples, children, adolescents, and families with compassionate, accessible, and relational mental health care.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but it has been deeply life-giving work. I feel very aligned with what I do, and even through the challenges, I hold onto the heart behind the practice.
One of the biggest learning curves was realizing that graduate school does not necessarily prepare you to run a business. There was a lot I had to learn along the way, everything from leadership and operations to navigating the realities of building a sustainable practice. Humility and adaptability became really important.
At the same time, I’ve also been balancing entrepreneurship with being a mom and raising a family. That journey has taught me about boundaries, grace, and learning that I can’t do everything on my own. I’ve had to become more comfortable asking for support and trusting the team around me.
Despite the hurdles, I’m most proud of remaining committed to the same mission we started with: helping people experience genuine healing and lasting change. We’ve never wanted to compromise on the quality of care we provide, and I think staying grounded in that purpose has helped guide every decision along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Pahtia Counseling Center. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pahtia Counseling Center is a relational psychodynamic focused therapy practice serving individuals, couples, children, adolescents, and families throughout Texas. Our work is rooted in the belief that lasting healing happens when people feel safe, understood, and genuinely connected, not rushed through a one-size-fits-all approach to mental health care.
We specialize in areas such as anxiety, trauma, grief, relational wounds, betrayal trauma, depression, family, dynamics, and couples work. Our clinicians each bring different specialties and perspectives, which allows us to thoughtfully match clients with the support that best fits their needs and season of life.
I think what sets us apart is our commitment to deeper, transformative care. We’re not simply focused on symptom management or short-term fixes; we want to help people heal the “why” behind their struggles from the inside out. We also care deeply about creating a practice that feels warm, accessible, and human. Therapy can feel intimidating, so we want people to experience our space as welcoming, compassionate, and grounded.
As a first-generation professional business owner, I understand how vulnerable it can feel to ask for help, and I think that perspective shapes the way we approach care and community ensuring mental health care is accessible to families and individuals who may have previously felt overlooked or undeserved.
What I’m most proud of is the team we’ve built and the culture we’ve protected as we’ve grown.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with Pahtia Counseling Center in a variety of ways. We offer therapy services for individuals, couples, children, teens, and families across Texas, and we’re always honored when people trust us with their care and healing journey.
We also value collaboration within the community. We welcome connections with schools, physicians, churches, wellness professionals, and other community organizations who share a desire to support emotional and relational health in meaningful ways. Some of our most impactful work has come through those collaborative relationships and referrals.
