Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara & Anna Morris & Licari.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I Dream in Flowers Photography began long before it was a business. Co-owners Tara and Anna first met virtually in the early days of Instagram when their oldest children were just babies. Like many moms with cameras and creative hearts, they started taking on small brand rep opportunities, photographing products, children, and everyday moments while sharpening photography skills they had both been developing since their teenage years.
As their friendship grew, so did a shared dream: one day owning a flower farm. When Anna eventually moved to Austin, Texas, the idea of working closer together and building something meaningful became a reality. Somewhere between photography, motherhood, and dreaming about rows of blooming flowers, the name I Dream in Flowers was born.
Over the past decade, Tara and Anna have grown their business alongside their families. They photographed everything from family sessions and weddings to creative passion projects, always staying connected to the artistic spark that first drew them to photography. While their children grew up in front of and behind the camera, so did their brand.
In the last five years, they’ve come full circle, returning to the roots that started it all: working with brands. Today, I Dream in Flowers Photography specializes in commercial photography for children’s product and clothing companies. These brands hold a special place in their hearts because they were the ones who first opened the door into the professional photography world.
Now working with companies across the country, Tara and Anna have recently relocated their home base to Asheville, North Carolina, where they are finally able to blend both of their longtime dreams: creating beautiful imagery for brands they love while building a life surrounded by flowers, family, and creativity.
While Asheville is now home, Austin will always be a part of the I Dream in Flowers story. It’s where the business was built, where countless sessions were photographed, and where so many wonderful clients and brand partnerships began. We continue to travel back to Austin regularly for commercial projects, family sessions, and longtime clients who have become friends over the years. No matter where our journey takes us, Austin will always be the place where I Dream in Flowers first took root.
What started as an Instagram friendship and a shared dream has grown into over a decade-long adventure, and we’re so grateful to continue creating alongside the families, brands, and communities that have been part of the journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but honestly, we think that’s part of what made the journey so rewarding. Neither of us came from a business background. Anna worked as a pharmacist, and Tara had a background in event design, so building a photography business from the ground up was a huge learning experience.
Like many creatives, we quickly realized that taking beautiful photos was only a small part of running a successful business. We had to learn everything from business management and client communication to invoicing, bookkeeping, taxes, contracts, and record keeping. There were plenty of late nights spent researching, troubleshooting, and figuring things out as we went.
Balancing a growing business while raising young children also came with its own challenges. There were seasons when life felt incredibly busy, and we had to learn how to adapt, prioritize, and support one another through it all.
Looking back, those challenges taught us resilience and helped shape the business we have today. We may not have had formal business training, but we were willing to learn, stay flexible, and keep showing up. Every obstacle became an opportunity to grow, both as business owners and as individuals.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At I Dream in Flowers Photography, we specialize in commercial photography for children’s brands, with a focus on toys, clothing, and lifestyle products. Our goal is always to create imagery that feels genuine, nostalgic, and full of wonder while helping brands connect with their customers in a meaningful way.
What we’re most proud of is that we’ve built a business centered around relationships. Many of the brands we work with today have been part of our journey for years, and it has been incredibly rewarding to grow alongside them. We have also had the privilege of watching our own children grow up while building a career doing something we truly love.
What sets us apart is our unique perspective. We started as parents photographing our own children and working with small brands, so we understand both the emotional connection families have to products and the storytelling brands need to communicate. We bring a blend of creativity, real-life experience, and a collaborative approach to every project, which helps us create images that feel both beautiful and authentic.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are so many people who have played a role in our journey, and we are incredibly grateful for all of them. First and foremost, our families have been our biggest supporters. Building a business while raising children would not have been possible without their encouragement, flexibility, and belief in what we were creating.
We also owe a great deal to the small businesses and children’s brands that trusted us in the early days. Many of them took a chance on us when we were still learning and growing, and those opportunities helped shape the photographers and business owners we are today. Some of those relationships have continued for years, and it has been amazing to grow alongside them.
We’re also thankful for the photography community and fellow creatives who have shared knowledge, encouragement, and support over the years. Entrepreneurship can sometimes feel isolating, so having a community willing to share advice and celebrate one another’s successes has been invaluable.
Most importantly, we are grateful to our clients. Every family, business owner, and brand that has invited us into their story has helped build I Dream in Flowers into what it is today. We truly would not be here without them.
