Today we’d like to introduce you to Tishy Bryant.
Tishy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I didn’t start out in photography the traditional way. I began my career at GSD&M, where I learned the creative side of advertising and the power of storytelling. From there, I moved into the PR world, expanding into communications, social media, and operations. Being part of how a business runs behind the scenes gave me a strong foundation in both creativity and strategy, and it still shapes how I run my business today.
But I felt pulled toward something more personal… something that created a deeper, lasting impact.
What started as photographing a few seniors and families quickly became something I didn’t expect. I began to notice a shift, not just in the images, but in the people in front of my camera. I would see something in them they didn’t yet see in themselves… and then watch that moment happen when it clicked. When they saw it too.
Confidence changed. Posture changed. The way they carried themselves changed.
And I realized I wasn’t just taking photos… I was reflecting something back to them they needed to see.
That’s what built my business.
Today, I photograph clients across Texas, with a strong focus in Austin, specializing in senior portraits, sports, and editorial-style sessions. I’ve worked with hundreds of students, expanded into media days, team photography, and brand partnerships, and built a purpose-driven model team made up of students from 9th through 12th grade.
That team has become the heart of what I do. It’s not just about photos… it’s about giving back to the community, creating a space where these students feel seen, valued, and confident, and hopefully teaching them something meaningful about who they are and the impact they can have. Giving them a sense of purpose, even at a young age, is what drives me.
As my business has grown, I’ve also stepped into education, hosting a hands-on photography workshop called Rise Up, where I mentor other photographers on their purpose, along with the creative and business side of the industry.
I’ve intentionally built my business around a full-service experience, guiding clients from start to finish and helping them turn their images into something tangible… albums, artwork, pieces that live in their homes and become part of their story over time. Because these moments deserve more than just sitting on a phone.
Where I am now feels like a blend of everything I’ve learned… creativity, strategy, and connection. And I’m still growing, still evolving, and still chasing that moment… when someone sees themselves the way I saw them all along.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what shaped the business into what it is today.
I originally started my photography journey in Austin, then relocated to Southeast Texas, where I built a strong, established business and was consistently booking 8–12 months in advance. When I made the decision to move back to Austin, where my daughter was born, it meant stepping into a new season and rebuilding in a different way.
While I was fortunate to have relationships and connections in both cities, rebuilding still took intention. The last five years have been a lot of boots-on-the-ground effort… showing up, nurturing those relationships, collaborating, and putting in the kind of work that doesn’t happen overnight.
As a mom, that journey carried an extra layer. There were moments of balancing business, life, and the weight of starting fresh, but also a deeper sense of purpose behind it all. I wasn’t just building a business… I was building a life that allowed me to be present and create something meaningful at the same time.
Slowly, that consistency started to compound.
Today, I’ve had the opportunity to work with students and programs in communities like Lake Travis, Westlake, Vandegrift, Austin High, and surrounding schools. But none of that came easy. It came from a lot of hustle, a lot of persistence, and a willingness to keep going even when growth felt slow.
I think one of the biggest challenges as a business owner is learning how to evolve without losing your purpose. There’s always pressure to do more or follow what everyone else is doing, but I’ve had to stay grounded in why I started in the first place.
Looking back, rebuilding wasn’t easy… but it was necessary. It pushed me to grow, to be intentional, and to create something even stronger than before.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a senior portrait and sports photographer, and at the core of my work is connection.
My style is very intentional. On one side, it’s ethereal, backlit, and warm… the kind of light that feels soft, glowy, and almost cinematic. I’m drawn to golden hour, natural movement, and those in-between moments that don’t feel forced. I also love incorporating downtown textures and clean, editorial elements to give sessions a modern, elevated feel.
On the other side, my work in sports and media days is bold, structured, and high-impact. It’s about creating strong, confident imagery that represents not just the athlete, but the identity of the team and the energy of the program.
While those styles may feel different, they’re rooted in the same approach… I photograph each person in a way that feels like them. Not overly posed, not one-size-fits-all. I pay attention to personality, energy, and what makes someone unique, and I guide the session in a way that brings that out naturally.
A lot of my clients come in saying they don’t know what to do, and one of the things I’m most known for is how quickly that shifts. There’s a moment where they relax, trust the process, and start to see themselves differently. That transformation is just as important to me as the final image.
I’m also deeply invested in the communities I work in. I’m a top sponsor of the Lake Travis Cavalettes, and one of my most recognized and celebrated images came from that partnership. It was one of those moments where everything aligned… light, energy, and presence… and it really helped establish my voice in the sports space.
Most recently, I’ve partnered with Jerry Hughes as the official photographer for the Westlake Cheerleaders, where we’ll begin working with the program this summer. It’s an exciting next step and a reflection of how my work has grown within both senior and team photography.
But what I’m most proud of goes beyond the images.
I’ve built a model team made up of students from 9th through 12th grade, and that has become the heart of my business. It’s a space where they feel seen, supported, and confident, and where they’re encouraged to step into who they are with purpose.
I also host a hands-on photography workshop called Rise Up, where I mentor other photographers in both the creative and business side of the industry.
What sets me apart is that I don’t approach photography as just taking pictures. It’s an experience. It’s connection. It’s creating something that reflects who someone really is.
Anyone can take a photo… but not everyone can make someone feel seen.
And that’s what I care about most.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was actually pretty shy. I think a lot of that came from how observant I was… I was always taking everything in, noticing people, energy, and the little details most people overlooked.
I wasn’t the loudest person in the room, but I was definitely paying attention.
Then somewhere along the way, that shifted. By my senior year, I was voted “biggest talker,” which still makes me laugh. It’s funny how that works… once I felt comfortable, that more outgoing side came out.
I’ve always had a creative side, even if I didn’t fully know what to do with it at the time. I was drawn to anything that allowed me to express something visually or emotionally. And at the same time, I’ve always been someone who cared deeply about people. I wanted others to feel included, seen, and valued.
Looking back now, it all connects. That mix of being observant, creative, and people-focused is exactly what I bring into my work today. Photography just became the space where all of those pieces came together… where I could both notice and connect, and help people feel seen in a way that matters.
