Nathaly Jaimes of North Austin on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Nathaly Jaimes shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Nathaly, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve always enjoyed spending time with my family but lately I’ve made sure to prioritize that a lot more. It’s easy to get caught up in the routine and neglect what truly brings meaning to our lives!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I recently stepped in to help grow GBJB’s, but this was all started by my wonderful parents back in 2013! They’ve changed recipes and flavors throughout the past 12 years and it’s truly meaningful when we see customers return year after year. We’ve all put in effort to keep the business going, and look forward to so much more growth to come!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad has definitely taught me what hard work is and the impact it will serve in your life. He arrived to the US at only 15 years old and hard work is what helped him make it this far. Every time I’m faced with a challenge, I remind myself that my parents had it harder and still overcame every obstacle. Their grit and perseverance is what motivates me constantly.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
This year has definitely tested me and there have been times when the idea of going back to my regular routine seems so much easier. However, I know there’s potential for so much more growth, for myself and for the business. I have ideas and goals that I’m not willing to let go of, it’s all a matter of perspective and reminding myself that hard moments don’t last forever & getting comfortable with the idea that those hard moments will come again

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I will always value family at all costs, everyone around you may walk away, but as long as you have your family, there’s nothing you can’t overcome. As a first generation Mexican-American my goal is to help my parents succeed. Its an old school value, but one that brings meaning to my life; anyone who knows me personally, knows that my life revolves around my family and there’s no greater motivation than them.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I’m tap dancing, cartwheeling, and singing my way to work! It’s awesome to serve people who have a love for shaved ice and appreciate what we have to offer. Every year we return for season I love seeing everyone returning with smiles and excitement, some running up to order and telling us they’ve missed us so much. We’ve shared many milestone and impactful moments in life with our customers, it helps the days feel fun and joyful, not just another day clocking in
