Pablo Rammsy of South congress on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Pablo Rammsy and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Pablo , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’m so happy to spend a day at the river with my dog Toribio. He’s so happy swimming, and his joy and smile when he’s in the water are priceless.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Pablo Rammsy, and I’ve been a tattoo artist for over 20 years.
I’ve been living and working in Austin for the past five years.
I love tattooing an the simple life,
Have a day at the river with my dog, and enjoying a good beer or Negroni.
And I love good cusine and going to the gym.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I never had much faith in myself, nor did I think I would be able to be someone or live as long as I have, and I am very proud of what I have achieved in life, of being who I am and feeling good about myself.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Of course, I was close to giving up many times, but here I am.
No one said it would be easy. The important thing is to get up and keep going, because the world doesn’t stop for anyone, and if you stay still, life passes us by.
It’s better to keep moving forward without looking back.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Of course, what your loved ones think is important, but the most important thing is that you do what you think is best for you, that makes you happy and a better person. What others think doesn’t matter.
Always follow your instincts and your dreams.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I think so because tattooing has always been around since I was little, I liked it. I don’t have anything in common since my family isn’t artists or anything related and my country didn’t have a tattoo culture either, it was something very unknown and underground, but since I was very young it caught my attention and without much knowledge or skills I managed to live and I managed to make decent tattoos, something that no one ever thought I would achieve. But I did it.
