Rising Stars: Meet Amber Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Keller.

Hi Amber, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started making soap in 2015. I had always been drawn to the smells and textures of handmade soap. I took a class on how to make cold process soap and was immediately hooked. For months, I experimented with different recipes. After getting good reviews from family and friends, and realizing how much I enjoyed the process, I decided to take the next step. I started my first website in 2016 and have organically grown my business over the last few years. I began my subscription box service almost three years ago, which is what really helped me take off with my social media and selling in stores.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road! Not just on the business side of things, but with soap making in general. Soap making isn’t just an art, but a science. Soap making can be really tricky and there is a lot to learn along the way. It has taken a lot of trial and error to perfect my soap recipe. And even with a perfect recipe, it is still easy to have “soap fails.” I have found that I learn the most when something doesn’t go perfectly, so it has also been a fun journey to find the best techniques and ways to do things.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in bright happy cheerful soap that feels good on your skin! I love bringing a little “happy” to your morning shower/bath. I put a lot of effort into education as well. My social media is a source of tips and inspiration for other soapers. I also have taught soap making classes! Since soap can be tricky, I love helping others figure it out. It brings me a lot of happiness to see others succeed with their own soap making.

What were you like growing up?
I was always a maker — even from an early age. I was a musician/artist/sewer and always making something! That has really shaped me into the soap maker I am today. I love to change up my designs and techniques and I love to learn!
