Today we’d like to introduce you to Caryn Rock.
Hi Caryn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been drawn to stories- not just the dramatic ones, but the quiet moments that often go unnoticed. For nearly two decades, I taught art and photography, helping students see the world through a creative lens while continuing to grow as a photographer and visual storyteller myself.
After a major life transition, I began rebuilding my life and career around the things that make me feel most alive: filmmaking, photography, writing, and genuine human connection. Along the way, I’ve taken on a variety of creative roles while saying yes to unexpected adventures that have become part of my story.
Most recently, I created and submitted my proof-of-concept trailer for my first narrative short film, Field Notes. The project grew out of my belief that beauty exists in ordinary moments if we’re willing to slow down and notice them. My hope is to create films that leave people feeling more present, more connected, and more in love with the lives they’re already living.
I’m still very much in the middle of my journey, and that’s what makes this chapter so exciting. Every project, every conversation, and every plot twist continues to shape both my work and the person I’m becoming.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most meaningful journeys, mine hasn’t been without obstacles. I’ve experienced major life transitions, career changes, financial uncertainty, and moments where I had to rebuild from the ground up. While those seasons weren’t easy, they taught me resilience, adaptability, and a deep trust that life has a way of opening unexpected doors when we’re willing to keep moving forward.
Looking back, I wouldn’t erase those experiences because they shaped both the artist and the person I’ve become. They taught me that growth often begins where certainty ends. Today, I’m far less afraid of change than I once was. I trust myself, I trust the creative process, and I trust that even the biggest plot twists can lead to something more meaningful than I could have planned. Very little scares me anymore because I’ve learned I can survive, and even grow through, things I once thought would break me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer, aspiring filmmaker and visual storyteller drawn to the beauty hiding in ordinary moments. After spending nearly two decades teaching art and photography, I’ve come to believe that creativity isn’t just about making beautiful images- it’s about helping people see the world differently.
My work blends cinematic storytelling with authenticity, curiosity, and emotion. Whether I’m photographing people, creating a short film, or documenting everyday life, I’m always looking for the moments that reveal something honest about the human experience.
I’m especially proud of creating my proof-of-concept trailer for my first narrative short film, Field Notes. It represents years of creative growth and the courage to pursue a lifelong dream. The project reflects what I hope all of my work will do: encourage people to slow down, notice the overlooked beauty around them, and reconnect with wonder.
I think what sets me apart is that I don’t chase perfection or spectacle. I’m interested in presence. I believe attention is a form of love, and some of the most meaningful stories are found in the quiet moments we usually rush past. Those are the stories I want to tell.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Wow, I have so many fun childhood memories, but one that stands out being summertime right now, is riding my bike to the community swimming pool with friends, swimming until we wore ourselves out, then going home, eating popsicles and crashing on the couch under the ceiling fan. Those were the days!
