Today we’d like to introduce you to Geri DiVita.
Hi Geri, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am what I would say is your average person. I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon. in fact I was married at age 15 and had a child. I worked hard, stayed focused and worked my way up through the business world by always looking forward. As I matured with age I didn’t feel I was in any better position than when I started. yes, I made more money but I also had more debt. Living life as society dictates. If you can afford the payment you can have it all. We had the big house near the lake, cars, boats and loving life. We didn’t have a secure retirement an in my fifties his became an issue. I started to seek ways to improve and while we were making progress it seemed I would be working well into my seventies. This was not an option for me so I took action. I sought mentors, focused on getting out of debt and learned the skills to invest while working a 9 to 5. This journey started fall of 2016 and by spring of 2022 I was able to retire at age 62. I laugh as I say retire because I really do work hard today. The difference is its on the activity I choose to work hard at. For the first two years we put all our energy into investments; single family homes, flips, wholesaling, shared housing, vacation properties and RV park. We also founded a non profit which will become our full time passion.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never smooth and no one should tell you it is. There will be obstacles and set backs that you must get through. This to me can be the most rewarding and the most frustrating part. My husband and I had to learn how to work together. I am the leader and visionary here he is the hands on person. I had to learn how to not be the sole person that does everything. In the beginning this is most likely how everyone starts. the key is to know when to let go and bring in the people to do the every day tasks. I had to learn how to manage my time better, say no, focus on what mattered that day and what can shift. Always to be open to learn expecially from your mistakes.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My career focused in the tech world. I remember by first job. I was hired on as an accounts payable trainee at age 18. I think what sets me apart is my outlook. I can always find a way to solve a problem and I do what ever it takes to be effective and efficient. I loved develping others and grew in management roles. Every leader wants and needs problem solvers and I believe this is one of my best trade secrets.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are in the middle of right sizing our portfolio so we put our energy into our non profit. Thrive For Life is focused on equippment people, empowering lives and building legacy. for the past 18 months I have been focused on building Financial legacy and partnered with Unbreakable Enterprises. Under the Financial unbrella we deliver our foundations program. In my opinion you cannot build a legacy unless you have a solid foundation. Finances go much further that this. You need be healthy in all aspects of your life which is why we chose to partner with Unbreakable Enterprises. I also started to educate people on healthy living and educating all that I can on being in balance inside the body. Lastly, my husband who is a co-founder is focused on educating people on trades. His first passion project is in the garage. We are looking for vehicle donations where his on-hands class room approach will help his students create skills and will bring transporation to those in need. Donations is key to our success. We need funds to deliver our programs, we need vehicles, we need volunteers and we love to partner with our community.
