Today we’d like to introduce you to Guillermo Gonzalez Jr.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got my start in 2014 while Job hunting, I came across a store I’ve never heard of before called Sephora . I was immediately mesmerized by the gigantic assortment of products, I was approached by a woman who started talking to me about the store, honestly I looked so out of place I might have looked a little suspicious. I later found out she was the store director, and after finding out I was in search of work she asked me back for a second interview. That is when my passion for makeup artistry began, I learned all that I could on my own, watched every video of pro artist I could come across online but never got the chance to do makeup. There was always that voice in my head telling me “give up, or that looks horrible”. But I continued to learn all that I could waiting for the chance to express my work, and when I did I was hooked. Since then I have been able to work with so many different artist and clients and learn so much hands on knowledge from special occasions to bridal to date night and red carpet ready makeup. I did recently have the amazing opportunity sponsored by a well known makeup brand Makeup Forever to enroll into the L Makeup Institute school for makeup artistry, hair design, and body paint and airbrushing.
The school allowed me to really fine tune my skills and pushed me to be more creative and honestly boost my confidence that allowed me to open myself up to take on more freelance opportunities and apply for jobs I would never have dreamed of.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a bumpy road, Majority of those road bumps are the self doubt or second guesses. Like why didn’t I get a call back or I should have done something a different way. Apart from that majority of my clients are very receptive also love my work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being a makeup artist I wouldn’t say I specialize in a specific area of makeup but I like to learn and apply for all different occasions and clientele. What I’m most proud of is remembering where I started from with absolutely zero knowledge or experience to being where I am at now. If anything were to set me apart from my peers I believe it would be my ability to always be open to feedback and grow from it.. I would say most people would say I’m known for my natural makeup applications.
Any big plans?
In the future I really want to have more experiences in the tv and film industry. Also I really want to start doing more master classes and doing more educational activities. But honestly I am going to put myself out there for every thing I can
