Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaneeka Moore
Hi Kaneeka, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello my name is Kaneeka S Moore. I was born and raised in Chicago IL. I moved here to Austin TX in 2016, went to beauty school, received my nail license, and started Nail-ish ✌🏾 is 2018. Nail-ish ✌🏾 originally started off as a mobile nail service business. 2 years later it the pandemic hit and everything shut down‼️ I couldn’t work nor did I have any extra income to pay my bills. I was afraid of what was to come as well as how I would support myself without any income.
Luckily I was able to receive unemployment to hold me over. In the mean time, I pretty much contemplated my life and what direction I needed to take next. It was due to the pandemic that my whole mindset and life changed for the better‼️ I started my spiritual journey, and I made up my mind that I wanted to leave behind a legacy for my family. I made a vow to myself, that I would put just as much effort into my own business and passions that I do for other people and their companies. From that moment I never looked back or gave up.
Today I am still going and pushing through all obstacles that I encounter. I still stumble from time to time. And there are always ups and downs when it comes to running a business. I’ve learned to just take everything as a learning lesson and keep moving forward. I am not where I would like to be in my business but I’m not giving up either‼️ Consistency is the key to success‼️ It’s easy to give up, but things that are worth having don’t come easy‼️
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Lol ooh how I wish I could say it’s been a smooth road. Fortunately and unfortunately, it has NOT‼️ Unfortunately when it comes to running a business, it’s not a easy task especially when you are starting from scratch and have no idea or guidance, to what you are doing. My business journey has been a learn as I go method. It isn’t the best but the experience first hand fortunately keeps me humble and open to learn and keep growing. The experience has also allowed me to help others starting their own business journey and help them to avoid some of the obstacles and challenges I’ve had to face.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love to create‼️ I don’t limit my creativity to just one thing. I just love to create and to be creative. But my favorite creative process is making jewelry. I also believe that is what I’m most known for as well. The second would definitely be fashion and one of the many skills I specialize in. And then creating my Press on nails and art pieces. I am most proud of my Press on nails because they are one of a kind and very unique and different than other Press on nail lines I’ve seen.
They are all relaxing to my soul, I can literally sit for hours and get lost in creating. I believe my creative eye and taste is what sets me apart from others. I have been different my whole life. I have never wanted to be anyone other than ME‼️ I have never followed a crowd and I won’t start now‼️
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I would have to say is don’t be afraid to ask for help‼️ It gets hard for business owners who are wearing multiple hats. Even harder for new business owners who are starting from scratch with no experience. I have learned that I don’t know it all and I also don’t know what I don’t know. So when unexpected issues occur, I allow myself to freak out but immediately find a solution. Rather I figure it out myself or ask for help. You’d be surprise that people are actually willing to assist you and have also had similar obstacles.
