Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Freeman.

Hi Katherine , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a creative growing up and in 2019 I started to crochet for myself and my friends. If I wanted a beanie or coasters I would just make it for myself. Then when my friends and I would go out someone would always lose their vape and that’s when I created the vape case for us. When more people would ask for one or ask for a beanie that’s when I started my store “katnaps & crafts” and i haven’t stopped since. Crocheting has really helped with my mental health and arthritis and to push myself as a creative to create more functional pieces.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve definitely hit roadblocks with the selling part of it. I started on etsy and wouldn’t really promote my store anywhere as it was a side hobby. At the end of the year I was laid off and that’s when I started to promote my store and sign up for more markets. It’s been an uphill battle with the store to make it more well known and profitable…but i’ve been loving the journey so far. Being apart of markets has been a fun struggle.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make lifestyle crochet accessories. I believe everyone should have handmade goods be accessible and affordable and an easy addition to their day to day. As I said on how the business really started by vape cases, those are the top sellers for 3 years in a row but I feel it’s a good representation of my products. It’s something you can use and it also has multiple purposes. My current product the I’m the most proud of is my cup clutches, I just think they are so cute and as someone who loves a coffee and shopping it is so easy to toss in your bag and be hands free when you’re out.

How do you think about luck?
I’ve definitely gotten lucky with the amount of markets i’ve been able to do. Even with other crochet artist there I believe since my products are more everyday friendly that if another crochet artist is there we get to compliment each other.
