Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Miller.
Hi Lacey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a lover of real estate and design since before I can even recall. One vivid memory was driving around Austin for hours with my parents as a young girl while they picked apart their favorite architectural features on hundreds of homes they admired.
Why did they do this?
Well, my dad is a musician and has been a part of the industry for my whole life. He’s toured and gigged hundreds of nights a year and is one of the hardest-working people I know. And teamed up with my mom by his side, who took care of our family as a stay at home parent, they had to establish a plan to create more savings opportunities than what his musicians income could provide at the time. So, after many years of saving for and renting out properties they purchased as rental investments, my parents were finally able to custom create a property that they are still so proud of to this day. I watched as they laid out their plans, carefully selecting the lighting and plumbing fixtures, flooring and windows. And then board by board, from the ground up, I watched our dream family home be built.
It was at that moment that I knew I was lovestruck by design.
Years later, I went to college and then started a job on the sales queue at Dell Computers. I quickly worked my way up in the tech industry and eagerly traveled all over the country building my resume and meeting many great people. But, after a decade in the corporate world, I had a moment of impact. My beautiful daughter was born. And immediately, I knew that I wanted to show her that anything was possible. My goal was to find a way to teach her to strive to be her best self. And because of that, alongside a big dream that I had, I knew that I had to lead by example and take a giant leap of faith. From there, the road led me to establishing a real estate investment company with my husband, leaving behind what felt comfortable and safe to me for starting over on a completely different path. And after many years of more education, another beautiful blessing – my son, lots of planning, many failures, learning opportunities and many more labors of love, my interior design and home renovation company, Elm Tree Home, was then born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have worked with clients through the years where most of the time, it is an incredibly fun experience for all involved. But I’ve also worked with clients through some challenging times as well. Things typically get on a really personal and intimate level as the design process is navigated. And while there have been so many moments of pure joy and excitement, there have also been times of intensity. Everything from family growth to times of tragedy, natural disaster, marriage, divorce, financial constraints, a worldwide pandemic and more have been a reason for my client’s personal need for their redesign. Whatever their reason though, I feel so grateful that they pick me to trust through the process and allow me into their personal spaces to create the level of comfort and peace that most are truly after. I want my clients to love where they live and I am always so honored to bring that to life for them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
To be honest, luck is not my favorite noun. So this is kind of a hard one to answer.
My personal belief is that opportunity and hard work can be attributed to success. And anything can be accomplished if you do things in life to set yourself up for the right opportunities. In other words, taking the right steps, learning from mistakes, continuing to try to grow, getting up when you fall down, and keeping the support system strong is most advantageous in building the path to the life you ultimately want. It’s not easy. But to me, it’s worth it.
My mom always preached that “you are who you hang out with”. And I truly believe that because of my community, my close friends and family and the support system that I am so grateful to have, that these have actually been the true driving force behind most of my goals. I want to look back one day and feel proud. I want my kids to be proud and have a good example to follow. I want to keep growing and learning. As long as I can keep doing those things, I will be grateful for my opportunities and content with the life I have created.
