Rising Stars: Meet Lea Crenshaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lea Crenshaw.

Lea Crenshaw

Hi Lea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Classic Cars and Networking: I want to take this opportunity to say thank you, Voyage Austin, for your consideration. You want to be featured but think it is only possible sometimes. Since I grew up in a small town outside of Houston, I had the best of both worlds—small-town family vibes and big-city fun within minutes. So I got to meet many people and see and do many things in my early years, thanks all to my loving parents. One thing I appreciate the most is my dad’s love of cars. He would often share his sight of classic car’s polished curves and its design’s timeless elegance, which ignited a spark of fascination in my heart. I enjoy striking up a random but intentional conversation with older people about their classic rides or mine. I can never hear enough. “I used to have one of those.” Keeping classic cars on the road is now my mission, along with supporting women in the auto industry. I make it a point to attend local car shows and reach out to companies and different people to network.

I’m grateful to have forged lifelong friendships through this passion. All the while, I was soaking up information about different models, restoration techniques, and the history behind each one. Restoring and maintaining these vintage machines has become a therapeutic hobby. So recently, I’ve started a social media account dedicated to classic cars, documenting restoration projects and sharing the stories of fellow enthusiasts. This combination of classic cars and networking skills opened unexpected doors. My IG has gained much traction, so I’ve turned it into a twofold attraction. Cool rides pictured, but crazy and funny reels once you tap. It’s crazy what will hold people’s attention. 😆 My thought process is, while I have your attention, look at this, or so far so good.

And while the getting is good, I’ve decided to join a social club, and now I manage an Austin local band, Buffalo Sons. My 9-5p takes precedence, but not having kids allows you more time to fit in all the things you’ve dreamed of while a kid. And that’s what I am: a kid at heart and enjoying life. I volunteer on the weekends; I love playing golf with hubby and spending time with family and friends. I have absolutely no complaints.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not by any means, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Anything that comes easy is a red flag to me, lol. Some of my struggles include only having an associate’s degree in something that doesn’t help in my endeavors. Another struggle is keeping my mental health on track and not letting all the losses get to me. And last but not least, money. You have to get creative when you don’t have much of it. So again, (insert cliche saying)what doesn’t kill me will only make me stronger.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I consider myself an artist, as in I’m an inventor and creator. I will create things that are cool to me and then share them with others. I will invent an opportunity to work with someone or learn from them. My craft is so broad that I want to be fluent in nothing but knowledgeable in everything. My passion for cars has allowed me to build my dream car exactly how I design it. Then, I took that design and had a character logo made. Then, I took that and turned them into shirts to sell to help support my hobby. As a creator, I used to DJ and create mashups and playlists for people. As an inventor, I struggle because the ideas are all in my head and drawn out on paper. So that is a TBC topic. Big things are coming, including turning a gas-powered Porsche into an electric-powered car. Fun times

What were you like growing up?
Weird. So they say. I took nothing seriously, and I wasn’t afraid to fail. My dad taught me how to use my hands, and my mom taught me how to use my compassion to care for others. I only got in trouble at school several times and remember each time. But yes, I was the best-dressed class clown. Odd combo, right? Lol
