Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Neuhaus.
Hi Lindsey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2018, I was selling jewelry for another company when I decided it was time to build something of my own. I’ve always loved fashion, especially beautiful embroidered pieces, and that love became the starting point for Bizzy Lizzy Boutique.
From the very beginning, I wanted Bizzy Lizzy to be a boutique where more women could find something that made them feel great. As a 5’10” woman myself, I know how frustrating it can be to walk into a boutique and feel like nothing was bought with your body type in mind. Offering a full size range was important to me, so I started by carrying beautifully embroidered clothing in sizes XS–3XL.
Over the years, Bizzy Lizzy has continued to grow and evolve right along with our customers. We’ve expanded beyond our original embroidered styles to include colorful prints, dresses, tops, everyday basics, and those fun statement pieces that make getting dressed a little more exciting. I love finding styles that feel special but are still wearable for real life.
Today, Bizzy Lizzy Boutique is an online boutique based in the Austin area, but some of my favorite parts of the business happen offline. For the past eight years, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and style customers throughout the Austin and Houston areas at holiday markets, vendor shows, and pop up shops. I absolutely love pop up shops because I get to see my customers face to face, help them put outfits together, and watch them find that piece they instantly feel good in.
What started as an idea to create something of my own has turned into a business and community that I’m incredibly proud of. We’ve grown every year, and I still feel like there is so much more ahead for Bizzy Lizzy. I’m excited to continue growing our online presence, meeting new customers, expanding our collections, and seeing where this next chapter takes us!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely wouldn’t say it has always been a smooth road! I started Bizzy Lizzy Boutique in November 2018, so I had a little over a year of business under my belt when COVID hit. I remember thinking, “Oh my lordy, this is over!” I was still so new, and suddenly everything about the way I had been building my business changed overnight.
But instead of stopping, I just kept showing up. I continued connecting with my customers online, sharing new styles, and finding different ways to keep Bizzy Lizzy moving forward. Behind the scenes, it was a wild time. There were major supply chain issues, and some of my vendors skipped entire collections and moved production six months further out. As a boutique owner who has to buy inventory months in advance, there was a lot of learning, adjusting, and figuring things out as I went.
Somehow, in the midst of all that uncertainty, Bizzy Lizzy actually grew. It taught me one of the biggest lessons I’ve carried with me as a business owner: keep showing up, stay flexible, and be willing to pivot when things don’t go according to plan.
There have certainly been other challenges along the way, and I’m sure there will be more as the business continues to grow, but I’m incredibly proud that I made it through such an unpredictable time. Looking back now, I think that experience gave me a lot more confidence in myself as a business owner. If Bizzy Lizzy could make it through that just a year after opening, I knew we had something worth continuing to build.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Bizzy Lizzy Boutique specializes in clothing for real women who have things on the calendar! Birthday parties, wedding showers, baby showers, girls’ weekends, vacations, date nights, holiday parties, or just a fun lunch with friends. We are here for those Instagrammable moments in life when you know photos are going to be taken and you want to feel good about what you’re wearing.
Embroidery has always been one of our specialties and continues to be something we are known for. I love embroidered pieces because they photograph beautifully, feel unique, and have a quality and timelessness that makes them worth keeping in your closet. These aren’t pieces you wear once and forget about. Many of them can be pulled out year after year and still feel special.
What I’m most proud of, though, is the thought that goes into our selection. I don’t go to market and simply buy what everyone else is buying or chase every trend. I shop with my customers in mind. I listen to their feedback, pay attention to what they love, what fits their lives, and even what events they have coming up. Then I buy with intention.
After eight years, I know my customer pretty well, and I think that personal connection is what sets Bizzy Lizzy apart. I want our customers to open our website or walk into one of our pop up shops and immediately see pieces that feel like they were chosen for them. My goal isn’t just to sell her another dress or top. I want to help her find something she’s excited to wear, feels confident in, and will be happy she was wearing when she looks back at the photos years from now.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Some of my best mentors have been the women working in the booths right beside me at pop up shops and vendor markets. We are all in the same boat, working the same long days, loading and unloading our cars, setting up our booths, talking with customers, and trying to grow businesses we believe in. At the end of the day, we all have the same goal in mind: success!
I have met some of the most phenomenal women and business owners through my market shows. What may have started as conversations between booths has turned into wonderful friendships, mentorships, and a network of women who genuinely support one another. We share ideas, recommend events, talk through challenges, celebrate each other’s wins, and help each other figure things out along the way.
My biggest advice for networking is to build relationships with the people who are already in the trenches with you. Don’t approach every connection thinking about what that person can do for you. Be curious, share what you’ve learned, cheer for other people’s successes, and be willing to help them too. Some of the best business relationships happen organically when you consistently show up and support one another.
There is room for all of us to be successful, and having a community of women beside me who understand the highs and lows of owning a business has been one of the unexpected gifts of building Bizzy Lizzy Boutique.
