Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Hornsby.
Marissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always loved creating, connecting with people, and having real conversations about things we don’t always say out loud. I started The Pretty Candid Podcast because I wanted a space where I could be myself, share my thoughts, and give other people a space to do the same. Before The Pretty Candid Podcast, I explored entrepreneurship and built House Of Noelle, which taught me a lot about taking an idea and turning it into something real. The Pretty Candid Podcast really became the next chapter for me because it brings together so many things I naturally love, like storytelling, creativity, conversation, and community. I’m still figuring things out and evolving along the way, but I think that’s what makes the journey so special.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. There have been a lot of ups and downs, especially when you’re trying to build something while also balancing work, motherhood, and everyday life. I’ve had to figure out when to keep pushing and when to let something go, and learn not to compare my journey to everyone else’s. Building The Pretty Candid Podcast has taught me that things don’t always happen on the timeline you imagine, but that doesn’t mean you’re not moving forward. I’ve had to learn to trust myself, give myself grace, and keep going even when I don’t have everything figured out.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the host and curator of The Pretty Candid Podcast, where I create space for honest conversations around life, relationships, culture, personal growth, and everything in between. I’m really passionate about storytelling and making people feel comfortable enough to be their authentic selves. I think what sets me apart is that I’m not afraid to be real and ask the questions that people are actually thinking. I want every conversation to feel like you’re sitting down with a friend, not watching an interview. I’m most proud of creating something that feels true to me and building a community around it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really look at it as luck. I’ve prayed for a lot of the things that are happening in my life now, and I’ve always tried to be intentional about what I’m creating and where I want to go. I truly believe I’ve been blessed with opportunities that I prayed for, manifested, and worked toward. Of course, there have been things that didn’t work out the way I expected, but even those moments have led me somewhere I needed to be. I’m really grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and I try to stay open to whatever God has next for me.
