Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Johnson.
Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
My life is blessed. Every day allows me to thank our Heavenly Father for His blessings in my life and my family. I am a wife and mother of 3 young men and three beautiful grandchildren. My extended family resides in the surrounding areas from Round Rock to Georgetown and Cedar Park. We celebrate life often, whether it be celebrating birthdays or just firing up the BBQ pit to eat, drink and relax during the weekend, refreshing our spirits before facing another work week. My passion is to serve those less blessed: In Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus communicates the importance of helping others, “For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty. You gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and they welcomed me. I was naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.”
I have lived mainly in the suburbs of Austin, mostly in Cedar Park, where I started my business in May of 2019, Blooming Your Social. I create and implement social media marketing plans for small businesses and nonprofits. My personal goal is to keep my clients in front of their target audience, thus leading to their success and mine. My first exposure to nonprofits on the Hill was with Hero’s Night Out in 2013. I served on the Board of Directors until 2017. While serving on the board, I helped plan the Boots & Bling fundraisers and the annual Military Appreciation BBQs benefiting our well-deserved Veterans, allowing them to receive recognition and be celebrated for their military service. Shortly after leaving the board of HNO, I was invited by Mark Ayotte to serve at Reveal Resource Center to help bring awareness to the services they provide for struggling families with their food pantry & clothes closet. As a single mom with small children, I understood the difficulty in making ends meet to pay living expenses and put food on the table. I remembered the struggle and the constant stress. I agreed and came to Reveal. In 2018, I planned Reveal’s 1st fundraiser through Amplify Austin with the support of the Board Members.
In October of 2019, a young mother approached me asking for diapers; my heart sank when I had to tell her we didn’t have diapers and none were ever available. I remembered the cost of those disposable diapers, and a seed was planted in my heart; I had to find a way to help these babies have the needed diapers. I shared my concern with the board and told them how my thoughts were constantly on that mother and so many others like her. I felt God had put a mission in my heart; I wanted to start a diaper ministry.
In January 2020, with the help of a couple of amazing women in the community ~ Malessa & Heather ~ and others already generously serving at Reveal, we started building the foundation of what would become Baby Blessings, Reveal’s Diaper Ministry. Did you know 1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers each month? The average cost of diapers per baby is $100 each month.
One exciting tidbit Baby Blessings ~ A Reveal Ministry holds the Guinness World Record for building the “Largest Diaper Cake” on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Reveal Resource Center on the Twin Lakes Fellowship Campus in Cedar Park, TX. We continue to collect diaper donations and serve over 100 babies a week with diapers. My dream was fulfilled, and I thank God daily for the ladies that make up my Diaper Diva Team and their untiring desire to serve others.
In 2019, I began working with Mark Ayotte at Christian Resource Center as their social media manager. Working at CRC has allowed me to make a difference in many families’ lives by advocating, supporting, and empowering our Member Ministries to fulfill their missions better. As time went on, I followed my heart. I accepted the opportunity to serve as the Executive Director in October of 2022 to walk alongside others and what I pray will be a lasting impact on the Twin Lakes Fellowship campus for CRC. I am blessed with the opportunity to encourage others to serve and connect people within our business community to our Member Ministries & Referral Partners every moment I get.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my big obstacles was, and still is, at times, time management. Being a mom, working, serving, and taking time for myself is work. I have to block my calendar and stick to it! One of my challenges is saying “no.” I love to help others! Serving on the Reveal Resource Board, volunteering at community events, and starting Baby Blessings, the diaper ministry, brings me so much joy. Smooth no, but a road well worth traveling yes!
Connecting, nurturing, and inspiring people within our community to help them grow personally and professionally is a big part of my life. I strive to help enrich the quality of life for others with the community’s support. We can share stories that inspire and empower others with a joint effort.
