Rising Stars: Meet Mirjam Tekla Frydman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mirjam Tekla Frydman.

Hi Mirjam Tekla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I had to think for a long time about how I started, Teklas Bitchcraft was lingering on me for quite some time. I think this story began in 2020 when my close friend gave me a book of witchcraft and shamanism by a witch, Jolanda. Little did I know I was soon about to enter a dark night of the soul. While reading this book I found a lot of recognition. Many of the energy practices I was already doing, unaware it was witchcraft/shamanism. I had a deck of tarot I used for guidance every once in a while. At this time I was working night shifts at a psychiatric ward for children. I came home one morning, took a bath and suddenly I knew deep inside that I had to change my whole life. I was reevaluating everything. I just couldn’t go back to work, couldn’t go back to my studies in media. I was so lost, I had no idea what to do. I just existed for a long time. While existing I started to take long walks in the forest. I also had a severe allergy to spring pollen and no medication helped. I researched and found that pine pollen could be an antidote, and this actually healed the allergy! I started to forage more medicinal plants from the forest and made teas and tinctures as medicine. All of a sudden I felt so strong again, using the plants to heal myself. Somewhere here the seed of Teklas Bitchcraft was planted. I inherited the name Tekla from my grandmothers mother who was an herbalist who died very young, I’m sure she’s with me as a guide. From here things happened quite quickly. I went to a tarot course with the witch who had written the book. She accepted me as her apprentice, and I went to markets and bachelorette parties with her to do tarot readings. Another friend, DJ Marble, brought me with her to do readings when she was playing at night clubs. All of a sudden I got paid to do tarot readings and herbal teas at markets and night clubs.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m not gonna lie, it’s been super smooth so far. I’m so incredibly grateful for the journey I’m on. I do stay humble for the obstacles that can and will show up on the road though. I think the hardship before I started my business was so difficult. Now I’m just grateful that I’m on the other side of that dark phase of my life. Of course it’s endless hours of work and the instability of not knowing for sure what will come next. But honestly, I love to be a business owner and these things is a part of the process. I’d say the biggest struggles for me is being organized and structured in the administrative side of my business. Everything paperwork and keeping track of income etc is super hard for me. When I meet these mandatory struggles, I have to practice what I teach. I do some breathing, make some focusing herbal drink, remember that this experience will make me to grow even more. And then I just do it haha.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the CEO of Teklas Bitchcraft. I am a tarot reader, astrologer, herbalist and Kabbalist. I weave all these things together. I create readings, herbal teas, workshops, ceremonies and forage walks. In the summer I go to festivals and offer tarot readings and tea ceremonies. What I’m most proud of is having my own fortune telling ~herbal ~ summer solstice activation at the festival Electric Forest this summer. It was the greatest experience of my life! The festival is so magical and beautiful, and to be a part of it was just such a blessing. I was sitting in my little tarot nook and really watched and felt my dreams and visions merge together with reality, it was an otherworldly experience. I still have to pinch myself. I’m so proud I made it all the way. What sets me apart from others is the combination of all these magical things, coming into one ”product”. We don’t have to choose one of these, I believe in having the cake and eating it. Also I’m spicy and I celebrate the Bitchcraft. I make it sexy, cute and soo powerful. That is the energy I know we all possess and I want to bring it out of each one of the persons I meet.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I was spending summers close to a cow farm as a child. I was obsessed with the cows and helped the farmer to milk them every morning. It started at 6 am, and I was walking there at sunrise. That morning walk, the scent of dew drops, wild chamomile, the air slowly heating up from the rising sun, knowing I had two hours with the cows ahead! This is the happy place in my mind I go for total serenity.
