Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Diaz.
Hi Patrick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Austin in 2000 but went to school in Bastrop and grew up there. Majority of my family like my grandparents, uncles and cousins live in south Austin and my dad has been a mechanic in Austin for my whole life so majority of my weekends were spent in Austin. Although i didn’t physically grow up in Austin, i was always there. When i graduated from Bastrop, i knew i had to leave to the city. I had the taste of it in my mouth and i wanted more of it. There was no sort of community in Bastrop as someone that’s gay and latino. I made it my goal to create community in Austin. I started frequenting latino clubs and businesses in Austin and creating content around it. I then got discovered by Gabriela Bucio who is the owner of the places i frequented. I joined her marketing team and i’m still part of it to this day. I feel that working for her brand also helped my brand. Not only was their social media presence growing but so was mine. I now have a tiny platform that i use to promote small businesses, raise awareness and be an activist and also keep the latino community in Austin up to date with everything because it’s no lie that POC have been pushed out. I want to be that bridge where locals trust my content as someone that’s grew up around Austin.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being the son of immigrants and gay was very difficult for my upbringing. There was not many people like me. No one i could relate to but social media gave me hope because id see many people like me on there.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a content creator here in Austin.
I work for Gabriela’s Group marketing team where we focus on the social media of some of the most known latin restaurants and bars. I also great content for La Santa Barbacha which is a delicious tack truck that’s been recognized by the Michelin Guide for 2 years.
I’m also open to creating content for brands.
On my personal social media, i focus on promoting local brands, businesses and nightlife for latinos and the LGBTQ+ community. I’m also a big advocate for latinos in the community. My biggest accomplishment was recently that i got invited to Trending UPs Texas activation where only a few latino creators from Texas were invited to a workshop on how we could use our platform to raise awareness in our community. A big accomplishment was also being able to leave my job of 7 years at HEB to fulfill full time content creating.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can hire me to promote their local brands, reach out to me to help promote their small owned businesses and simply watching and liking my content.
