Rising Stars: Meet Stuart Moulton of Austin, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stuart Moulton.

Stuart Moulton

Stuart, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was hired by a local theater company in 1999, and moved to Austin to take the job. I was immediately charmed by the incredible Arts scene, but noticed that there wasn’t a professional producing Cabaret in town, which has always been my “first love” in the performing arts. I drummed up some support, and contacted some of my Broadway connections and dove in! 25 years later, the “little cabaret that could” is still going strong, and along the way I’ve had the honor of producing some of the biggest names in the Broadway and cabaret world, including Eartha Kitt, Carol Channing, Lucie Arnaz, Elaine Stritch, and so many others. This Fall starts our 25th year in Austin!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has always been a challenge to get the word out, and getting press coverage was tough. Naturally, for a non-profit Arts organization, funding and budget are ALWAYS a struggle, but our patron support is incredible.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I always get genuine thanks from our Guest Artists for treating them well, and providing enthusiastic audiences. It didn’t happen overnight, but I’ve built a loyal audience and kept the show running for nearly 3 decades.

How do you think about luck?
This question is interesting because I always say I am the luckiest guy in the world. I get to present my favorite singers to new audiences, and I’ve been lucky that I know so many brilliant performers!
