Today we’d like to introduce you to Trina Dorrah, MD.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a physician for many years, so I am very familiar with burnout among physicians. Many physicians leave medicine not because they no longer love taking care of patients, but because they are burned out. I knew I wanted to help.
My initial desire to help others with burnout in part came from the fact that I used to be burned out myself. One of the things that helped me was life coaching. Getting coached and experiencing life coaching as a client changed my life. I wanted to help other physicians in the same way, which is when I decided to become a life coach myself.
I received my initial life coaching certification in 2020 right as the pandemic was in full swing. This was an incredibly stressful time for physicians. I received a second life coaching certification through ICF (international coaching federation) in 2025.
I love being a life coach. I wanted to become a physician so I could help people, and I think of being a life coach in a similar way. I love helping physicians recover from burnout and I love helping physicians create the life they truly want to be living.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Like any entrepreneurial endeavor, it’s been filled with ups and downs. I think one of the hardest things about being a life coach is the marketing that’s required to get your name out there.
I love life coaching, and I want to help as many physicians as I can. However, you have to market yourself or else your potential clients don’t know you exist and they don’t know you can help them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My first career identity is as a physician. It’s all I ever wanted to do.
I love helping others with their health. It’s a unique honor to be invited in to help others when they are hurting. It is such a privilege.
That desire to help others is what made life coaching a natural hobby for me. I want to help physicians, and especially women physicians like myself to thrive.
I’m a general life coach, which means I coach physicians on any topic they want help with. I think what sets me apart is that as a physician, I uniquely understand my clients’ struggles. My clients feel safe coming to me for coaching.
One thing I think that’s important to note is life coaching and therapy are not the same thing. Since I am a physician, if I ever feel my client needs therapy instead or in addition to coaching, I don’t hesitate to let them know.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the unique opportunities this city provides. There is always something to do regardless of what you’re interested in.
