Sheridan Reed of Downtown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Sheridan Reed and have shared our conversation below.

Sheridan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Every morning when I wake up, the first thing I do is make my bed and then meditate. It’s something that helps keep me grounded and I enjoy the routine of it. After that it’s some reading or journaling with coffee or cold brew, followed by the gym. When I’m finished there, the afternoons are usually spent songwriting, reading, admin work, and prepping for gigs, whereas the nights are usually either spent performing, with my lovely girlfriend, friends, or relaxing. I find the last one the rarest.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a soul-driven singer-songwriter whose original music blends heartfelt lyricism with smooth, modern R&B grooves. My songs explore intimacy, vulnerability, and self-discovery through cinematic melodies and warm, expressive vocals. Rooted in emotion and authenticity, my sound tries to reflect the balance between classic soul influences and contemporary pop-sensibility.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I don’t think I ever thought to do anything else – it was unconventional but I knew I was going to be doing music. I didn’t know the path to get there, and stumbled along the way, but I’m happy where I’ve ended up, not only having music as a career but passion as well.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think the pandemic was really difficult time for most artists. Part of what we feed off for not only inspiration, but energy too, is people and life experiences. Without that, it was tough to not feel the monotony of each day. Performing is inherently something that feeds me, I love it, and I love finishing a new song. It was tough feeling uninspired and questioning whether live music would even come back at all.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
It’s most definitely the real version. I don’t feel any need to put up any pretense, I’m a nerd and I don’t hide it. I try to be as authentic as possible and just am myself.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Having anxiety. It’s something that I think most people struggle to a certain extent with anxiety, and all that is most of the time is worrying about things in the future that are out of our control in the present.
